Description

1. 3. TRACY.
STOVEI No. 266,661. Patented Oct. 31, 1882.
N ITE TATES iATENT FFICE.
HARRIET R. TRACY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO STEPHEN HENRY OLIN, OF SAME PLACE.
'STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,661, dated October 31, 1882.
Application filed October 16, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRIET RUTH TRACY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Portable and Adjustable Stove for Grate-Fires; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this description.
The invention relates to utilizing grate-fires for cooking purposes.
The invention consists of a stove for cooking purposes, made of sheet-iron or othersuitable metal, adapted to fit over the grate of a fire-place,the top ofthe stove havinga-rearward projection provided with a smoke-exit, which fits into the fire-place. The stove may be so constructed that when not in use it can be removed from the fire and folded into a small compass.
The drawing represents the stovein position. F, the bottom of thestove; E, the top, with its rearward projection and smoke-exit; Oand D, the sides; A and B, the doors. The bottom of the stove sits on the hearth, a little under the grate-fire, which protrudes into the interior of the stove, heatingthe top E, the rearward projection of which passes over the fire and fits into the fire-place, and is provided with a smoke-exit. The top E can be made solid or with openings. The doors A and B open into the interior of the stove, which, heated by the fire, formsanoven. Slatscanbearrangedfrom side to side, as convenience may recommend. The top E and bottom F extend on eitherside Renewed March 10, 1882. (Model.)
beyond the sides 0 and D, which support the top, and beyond the doors A and B, which the top just escapes touching.
The stove is not attached in any way to the grate, and can be removed from it. WVhen removed it can be folded up as follows: The doors A and B open and swing on the hinges until they touch respectively the sides 0 and D. The top E is then swung over on the hinges until it occupies the position formerly held by the doors when closed. The doors and sides then fold inward until they touch the top. The top, doors and sides then fold upon the hinges until all touch and lie upon the bottom F. The stove, when folded up, occupies but little space, the top, doors, and sides all resting upon the bottom. The stove is opened by raising the top, doors, and sides to a position perpendicular to the bottom. The doors and sides are then swung on the hinges until both are perpendicular to the top. The top is then swung on the hinges until it rests on the sides. The doors are then closed.
What I claim is- An adjustable stove, adapted to tit over the grate of a fire-place, and consistingof the parts A, B, O, D, F, and E, the latter havinga rearward extension provided with a smoke-exit which fits into the fire-place, substantially as described.
HARRIET RUTH TRACY.
