IMPROVEMENT IN FASTENERS THE MEETING-RAILS OF SASHES.
Specification forming part of letters Patent No. 158,780, datcd January 19, 1875; application filed J une 6, 1874.

.To all whom it may concern Be it known that I,,JOHN CHRISTIE, of New Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented a Meeting-Rail Sash-Fastening, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is the attainment of great strength, combined with small size and simplicity in all its parts.
I construct my device by hinging the fast ening-arm 0, having weighted knob D, to the plates A B, made in the form of a hinge, (or the plates may be cast in one piece, if preferred,) one plate, A, being screwed on the upper surface, the other plate, B, flushed in the wood and screwed to the inner edge of the meeting-rail of the upper sash. It is arranged for locking and unlocking by means of a slotted clasp, E, hinged to a screw-shank, F, inserted in the meeting-rail of the lower sash. By means of the weighted knob D on the back of the fastening-arm C it is prevented from striking the glass as it goes over, allowing the arm at the same time to rest on an incline outward, so as not to interfere with the workin g of the sashes.
The drawing shows a side View in sectionof fastening device. A B are the plates. (J is the fastening-arm hinged thereto. D is the weighted knob, and E the slotted clasp hinged to screw-shank F.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the weighted hooked arm 0, hinged to plates A B, with the slotted clasp E, hinged to screw-shank F, all substantially as described and shown, for the purv pose set forth.
