Description

ROBERT MOOABE, OF MEADVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA. I
SASH-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,106, dated May 6, 1884:.
Application filed October 8, 1883.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, ROBERT MoGliim, of Meadville, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and Improved Sash Latch and Lock, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for holding the sash of windows in any desired position when shoved up, and in securely locking them when down, so that they cannot be opened from the outside. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figuie 1 represents my device attached to the'window-jamb. Fig. 2 represents my device detached and the lock-hook B removed, showing the latch O and the plate D D, by which it is attached to the window-j amb. Fig. 3 represents my device removed from the window-jamb, but with all its parts adjusted in working order. Fig. 4 represents the lockhook B detached from the device.
D D is a metal plate, which is attached to the window-jamb by two or more screws.
0 is a latch hung on a pin, S, which is cast on the plate D D.
H is a projection, also cast on the plate D D, the upper side of which is straight, forming a rest which holds the latch in the position shown in Fig. 2. On this projection H the lock-ho0k B is placed, and by means of a screw passing through the hook,.the projection H,
and the plate D D into the windowjamb, it is securely attached to the window.
011 the sides of the sash A are screw-knobs l 2 3. (See Fig. 1.) When the sash is raised,
(Mallet) these knobs come in contact with the inner end of the latch C, lifting it in theposition shown in Fig. 3, and after the knob has passed the latch it falls back in the position shown in Fig. 2, when the knob, resting on the inner end of the latch, supports the sash. When it is desired to lower the sash, it is first raised slightly, and by pressing on the thumb-piece F of the latch G the latch is lifted in the position shown at Fig. 3, which allows the knobs l 2 3 to pass and the sash to be lowered. In this operation the lock-hook B is thrown back in the position shown at Fig. 3. WVhen it is "desired to fasten or look the sash down, or in any position where it is held by the knobs 1 2 3, the lockhook is thrown forward in the position shownat B, Fig. 1. This prevents the sash from being movedv either up or down.
R isacatch or stop on thelock-hook B,which catches on a stop, N, on the projection H, and thereby prevents the hook B from falling back farther than in the position shown at Fig. 3.
- \Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows, to wit: i
The construction of the windowsash fast-' ener, as described, consisting of the metal plate D D, the latch O, the rest H,and the lock-hook B, in combination with the screw-knobs 1 2 3 and the thumb-piece F,when the same are constructed as described in the aforesaid coinbi nation, for the purposes set forth.
