DISPLAY BOX.
Application filed April 29, 1924. Serial No. 709,860.
The object ot my invention is to provide a box in which goods are packed, particularly mechanical tools, and to provide means whereby a tool can be displayed on the box. A 'further object oi the invention is to provide a ydisplay box ot this type with a slotted bottom, which normally closed,
and, which, when the box is inverted, can be used to receive and hold a tool, such as' a drill having a wheel that entends into the slot.

The cover 5 of the box has a deep flange 6, in the present instance, which encloses the body l, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. Then it is desired to display the tool, which, in the present instance, is a drill a having a beveled gear Wheel l), and which has been packed in the box, the body l of the box is tilted, as shown in Fig. 2, and rests upon one of the end flanges G of the lid rlhe closure 4l is then separated from the body of the box on the lines 3, and is turned in, as clearly shown in Fig'. 5, so as to open the slot 7 through Which the Wheel b ot the drill extends. This allows the drill to lie fiat upon the inverted bottoni ot the box and the handle c can be arranged to lie parallel with the bottom, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, making a very attractive display, and at the same time, the drill is held rigidly in position on the box. "When it is desired to pack the drill in the box, the drill is removed and the closure Ll is pressed down into position, as illustrated in Fig. d closing the slot 7 in the bottom of the box, after which the tool can be packed therein in the ordinary manner. By making the slot in the bottom ot the box, the top is leit free 'ior labels.
I claim:
l. A display box having a body portion provided with a bottom; a slot at one end of the bottom for the passage of a portion ot a tool to be displayed; and a closure pivoted to one side ot the slot and arranged tbo close the slot when a tool is packed in the 2. The combination in a boi: of a body portion having a bottom, said bottom having a partial cnt outlining a slot and a closure 'for the slot so that, when it is desired to display a tool on the inverted body ot the box, the closure can be forced in to open the slot tor the reception of a portion of the tool; and a flanged cover for the box.
