IMPROVEMENT IN BLIND-STOPS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 158,445, dated January 5, 1875; application filed July 22, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD S. SHROCK, of Lincoln, in the county of Logan and State of Illinois, have invented certain Improvements in Blind-Slat Fastenings, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of this invention relates to improvements in devices by means of which the slats of window-blinds may be set and securely retained in any desired position; and the invention consists inhin gin g or pivoting a slotted connecting-bar atone end to the blind-rail, and connectingits other end, by means of a thumbscrew, with one end of the slat-rod, in such manner that the adjustment of the slats at any desired oblique angle may be readily and easily effected, all as hereinafter fully described.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe the same, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a blind and of my invention. Fig.2 is avertical sectional view of Fig. 1 on the plane of the line a: .90.

Referring to the parts by letters, letters A represent the side rails, and B the transverse end rails, of an ordinary blind-frame, and letters G the slats, journaled in the side rails A in any ordinary manner. D is the slat-rod, secured to the slats G by the staples (l in the usual manner, so that simultaneous rotary movement of the slats may be effected by reciprocating movement of said rod D. E is a plate secured to the end of the rod D, either by a socket-joint or by any other well-known method, and is pierced with a hole, 6, for the reception of the thumb-screw F. G is a connecting-bar, hinged at one end to a plate, H, which is secured to the rail B, and is slotted nearly its entire length, as shown plainly at Fig. 2. The thumb-screw F passes through the slotted plate G, and may be tightened up to bind the said plate against the side of the plate E. Either a thumb-screw inserted into the plate E or a thumb-nut operating on a stud projecting from said plate E may be used.

The operation of my invention is deemed obvious almost from an inspection of the drawings. By loosening the nut or thumbscrew F the rod D may be moved up or down to adjust the slats C as desired, the shank of the thumb-screw F sliding or moving in the 'slotted plate G, and the hinge at the lower end of said plate G, allowing it to change its inclination, as required by said movements of the rod D.

It will be plainly seen that the slats may be securely fastened by tightening up the screw F, either closed or open, or at any intermediate oblique angle, the full lines at Fig. 2 of the drawings showing the slats closed, and the dotted lines showing them open.

Various well-known and simple ways of bin ging the connecting-bar G to the blind-rail may be used, such as by a simple staple, a hook and eyebolt, &c.,but all substantially the same as my device.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The slotted bar G, hinged or pivoted to the rail B by means of a staple or plate, H, and arranged to operate in combination with the rod D, plate E, and set-screw F, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
