Be it known that I, ELAs N. MILLER, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ties, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in ties and has relation more particularly to devices of this kind especially adapted for use in connection with concrete molds and the like, and it is an object of the invention to provide a tie of this kind which may be readily applied into working position and which is preferably formed from a single strand of wire of requisite gauge.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind which may be employed to advantage in tying either metal or wood forms and which can be used in connection with any kind of uprights, either metal or wood. y

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my im proved tie whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

ln order that my invention may be the better understood, l will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accolnpanying drawings, wherein l `igure 1 is a fragmentary view in top plan and of somewhat a diagrammatic character illustrating ties constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention in appliedposition;

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved tie is formed of a single length or strand of wire of requisite gauge and comprises a central or intermediate length l having its opposite end portions reversely Vnzturned to provide the lengths' 2 and 3 each of which having is free end terminating inwardly of the adjacent end of the intermediate length l. Thedportions of the lengths l, 2 and v3 between the free extremities of the lengths l and 2 are coiled or wrapped one around the others whereby the central major portion of the tie possesses considerable strength and is substantially free from bending. i

The connected end portions of the lengths l and 2 and l and 3 outwardly of the free i ends of the lengths 2 and 3 are separated to provide the loops 4f which are adapted to be engaged around the external uprights 5 comprised in a form for concrete or the like with the tie extending through the filler between the front and back walls 6 of the form. rIhe free extremity of the length 2 is coiled, as at 7, around the lengths l and 2 at the inner end of the loop el adjacent to said coil 7 while the `free end portion of the length 3 is coiled, as at 8, around the lengths l and 2 at the inner portion ofthe loop 4 immediately adjacent to said coil 8.

A tie as herein disclosed can be readily used in tyingcither metal or wood forms and can be usedin connection with any kind of uprights, either metal or wood, as the loops l can be made any desired size and the various lengths comprised in the tie may be varied in accordance with the necessity of practice as is also true of the gauge of the wire.

lVhile the invention as herein described and illustrated shows the use of a single strand it is to be understood that two or more strands may be employed to provide what may be termed a duplex tie when it is required to increase the strength thereof.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a tie constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenienceand facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I dofnot wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as herein after claimed.
