ANNA A. MAOINTYRE. OF HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT.
HAIR-FORM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 15, 1921.
T0 01 Z "whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANNA A. .hlACINTYRE, a citizen of the United State, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented new and Improved Hair-Forms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the class of devices employed for building up the hair on a human head to give it certain shape and to retain it in such shape, and an object of my invention, among others, is to provide a simple device of this class that shall effectively fulfil its requirements.
One form of device embodying my invention and in the construction and use of which the objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a top view of my improved hair form.
Fig. 2 is a side view ot the same.
Fig. 3 is an end view.
My improved hair form is preferably composed of wire provided with a thin cow ering, as of thread, this form embodying a base with sides 5 joined at opposite ends and from which ends they curve gradually outward away from each other to the lengthwise center of the structure, and from which center they curve gradually inward to the opposite end of the structure. The ends of this base are preferably of substantially angular form and the base is preferably formed from a single piece of wire, the ends of which wire are joined at one of the ends 6 of the base, as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. When viewed from the side, this base comprising the sides curves upwardly from each end to the center of the structure.
A crown is secured to and rises from the side parts. this crown comprising cross members 8 and 9, each preferably being composed of a single piece of wire the ends of which are secured to the side parts of the base at substantially the same distance from the ends thereof and directly opposite the points at which the ends of the other cross member are secured, these members crossing each other at substantially the lengthwise and crosswise center of the structure, at which crossing point they are secured together as by the member 8 being wrapped around the member 9. This crown is also curved upwardly from its ends to the lengthwise center of the structure both laterally and longitudinally thereof. This arrangement of the cross members imparts a certain rigidity to the structure and at the same time permits it to be readily widened or narrowed without otherwise destroying its form.
The manner of using the form will be readily understood by those skilled in the art and for this reason an illustration of such use has been omitted from the drawings herein. This form may be provided at a very low cost and it will preserve any Form into which the hair may be built upon it and the compressibility and expansibility of the side parts. permitted by the arrange ment of the cross members enables the device to neonnnodate itself to different conditions as may be required.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes I have described the principles of operation of m invention, together with the device which now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative, and that the invention may be carried out by other means.
I claim 1. A hair form comprising a base with sides diverging on equal curves from each end of the structure to the center thereof. and a crown comprising cross strands secured to the sides of the base at substantially equal distance from the ends thereof and curving upwardly and crossing each other at substantially the lengthwise and crosswise centers of the structure.
2. A hair form comprising a base with sides diverging on equal curves from each end of the structure and also curving upwardly on equal curves from each end to the center thereof, and a crown comprising cross strands secured to the sides of the base at substantially equal distances from the ends thereof and also curvlng upwardly and crossing each other at substantially the lengthwise and crosswise centers 01 the structure.
3. A hair form comprising a base with sides meeting at substantially an angle at each end of the base said sides being formed of a single piece of wire, the ends of which are joined at one of said angles, and. a crown comprising crossed strands of wire secured to the sides of the base at substantially equal distances from each of the ends thereof and curving upwardly and crossing each other at substantielly the lengthwise and crosswise centers of the structure, at which crossing point the strands are secured to ether.
