LIGHTNING-ROD BRACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,348, dated July 26, 1887.
Application filed December 23, 1886. Serial No. 222,345. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, L. LAVAKE MAST, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVest Milton, in the county of Miami and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lightning-Rod Braces; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specific-a tion.
My invention relates to an improvement in lightningrod braces; and it consistsof a brace having three feet and formed complete of two pieces of iron rod, the precise construction of which will be fully hereinafter set forth.
As the braces are usually constructed, casteyes are used to hold the insulators, and, as these are very liable to break, the object of my invention is to obviate this objection by forming the said eyes within the rod forming the brace and uniting the two rods by twisting the upper parts together. The object is accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a side View of the improved lightning-rod brace.
B is a rod of iron, on the ends of which are formed feet in the usual manner, and these have orifices through which said feet may be fastened to a roof either by screws or nails. At the center of this rod is formed the eye 0, which is adapted to receive the usual form of glass insulator, D.
A is a rod provided with afoot, and near its longitudinal center is formed the eye 0, to hold an insulator, such as above specified.
The rod B is bent at a right angle near the eye, bringingthe two parts together. Then beneath the angle is placed the end a of red A, and the three parts of rods thus situated are twisted together to a point beneath the lower insulator-eye, thus forming a complete brace with but two rods of iron.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A lightning-rod brace constructed of two pieces of iron rod, the part B having an eye, C, formed at its longitudinal center and bent to stand at a right angle to the stem, and the part A having eye Onearits longitudinal center, and the upper parts of these being joined by twisting, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I my signature in presence of two witnesses.
' L. LAVAKE MAST.
