Description

PATENTED OCT. 4, 1904.
J. L. SPECTOR. ADJUSTABLE CIGAR BAND.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 29, 1904.
NO MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented October 4, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
ADJUSTABLE CIGAR-BAND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 771,331, dated October 4, 1904.
Application filed ..pril 29, 1904.
' To all whom it may noern:.
Be it known that I, J ACOB L. SPEOTOR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Cigar-Bands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in adjustable cigarbands; and its object is to produce adevice of this class which shall have certain advantages which will appear more fully and at large in the course of this specification.
To this end my invention consists in certain novel features which are shown in the accompanying drawings and described herein.
In the aforesaid drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a cigar, showing my improved cigarband in place. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the band removed, and Fig. 3 is an elevation of the band laid out flat.
Referring to the drawings, it will be seen that my improved cigar-band consists of a single piece of material, preferably paper, of sufiicient length to reach completely around the cigar and leave a loose end of considerable length. One end of the band A is enlarged and is provided with a slot at, and the remainder of the band consists of a narrow strip B, which can be passed through the slot a. A plurality of tongues 12 are stamped up from the body of the band, the said tongues extending toward the enlarged end A. These tongues are preferably pointed at their loose ends and may be. numbered in rotation from one end of the band to the other, as illustrated. In using my improved device the band is wrapped about a cigar, and the end B is passed through the slot a, as illustrated, and drawn up until the cigar is tightly inclosed. One of the tongues Z) then engages the'side of the slot and locks the band in place. The
semi No. 205,498. (No model.)
loose end is then broken ofl, leaving the band firmly fixed in place.
This device is particularly advantageous, for the reason that it dispenses entirely with the use of paste and avoids the danger of the band sticking to the wrapper of the cigar and breaking the same when removed. The tongues are numbered for the convenience of the workman placing them in position. The bands are in practice pulled up until a given number shows, and the remainder is then broken off. In this way the danger of tearing the band is greatly decreased.
I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of this construction without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I therefore do not intend to limit myself to the specific form herein shown and described.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cigar-band having a transversely-slotted enlarged end, a straight portion adapted to pass through the slot, and a plurality of tongues extending toward the enlarged end, stamped up from the body of the straight portion.
2. Acigar-band having a transversely-slotted enlarged end, a straight portion adapted to pass through the slot, a plurality of tongues extending toward the enlarged end, stamped up from the body of the straight portion, and a series of designating characters on the tongues.
In witness whereof I have signed the above application for Letters Patent, at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, this 26th day of April, A. D. 1904.
JACOB L. SPECTOR.
