A. RAHN ET AL DRAFT CONNECTION FOR TEAM HARNESS HAMES Filed March 3, 1925 Patented Mar. 16, 1926.
UNITED STATES ALBERT RAHN AND JOSEPH WEBER, 0F NEUSTADT, ONTARIO, CANADA.
DRAFT CONNECTION FOR TEAM HARNESS HAMES.
Application filed March 3, 1925. Serial No. 12,916.
and the object of the invention is to devise a strong durable draft connection which may be rigidly secured to the hame without weakening the same by cross rivets extending therethrough, and which provides a substantially pivotal connection for the harness tug or trace, and it consists essentially of the arrangement and construction of parts as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a hame member showing our draft connection applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a plan section through a hame and our draft connection.
A Fig. 8 is a perspective view of an alternative construction.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a further modification.
In the drawings like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
1 indicates a hame member.
2 is a piece of strap metal which is bent around the hame member as indicated in Figure 1, the ends being formed into lugs and 4 having aligned orifices 5 and 6.-
7 and S are spacing members through which orifices 9 and 10 extend.
11 is a bolt which extends through the aligned orifices-'5, 9, 10 and 6.
The spacing members are provided with a central engaging recess and boss 12 and 13 respectively.
1st is a projection extending inward at the. base of the inner lug 3. The inclined face 14; thereof engaging the inner edge of the hame. The opposite side of the strap at the base of the lug 4 is bent inward at 15 in an inclined direction so as to grip the .0p posits edge of the hame member and thereby when the legs are drawn together by means and i of the bolt 11, the inclined faces 14* and 15 have a gripping action upon the hame as the strap is bent around it to make an ab solutely positive and tight connection.
16 is a link provided with an eyed inner end 1?. extending around the spacing members 7 and 8, so as to swing thereon. The opposite end of the link is provided with a slot or orifice 18 through which the clip strap 19 connected to the trace 20 extends.
In Fig. 3 is shown an alternative form of link 21, and in Fig. i we have shown another form of link 25 provided with a supplemental link 26 pivotally connected to the link 25 by a vertical bolt 27. In this form also the inner end of the link 25 is formed into circular half-link member 28 inter-engaging with a similar member 29 carried by the hame.
T he member 29 is provided with a central boss 80 fitting within the circular end 28-. of the link and through which a bolt 31 extends, such bolt being provided with a nut 32 and washer 33 which may be hingedly connected as indicated to the base of the member 29.
lVhat we claim as our invention is:
1. The combination with a hame member, of a draft connector comprising a strap adapted to be bent around the hame memher to which a draft link is adapted to be connected, means having inwardly inclined faces adapted to engage the opposite outer faces of the hame as the strap is drawn therearound and the sides of the straps towards each other, and means for drawing the sides of the straps together and the inclined faces into engagement with the opposite outer edges of the hame.
2. The combination with a hame member, of a draft connector comprising a strap adapted to be bent around the hame 1nemher the ends forming spaced apart lugs, a
draft link extending between the lugs, a
bolt extending through the lugs and the link upon which the link is pivotally mounted, and means having inwardly directed inclined faces adapted to engage the opposite outer edges of the hame, as the strap is drawn therearound and the sides of the strap are drawn toward each other by the aforesaid bolt ALBERT aerial JOSEPH. WEBER-.
