Description

F. S. MARR.
DRAFT EQUA'LIZER. APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 30, 1919.
Patented Mar. 2L 19.22.
FRANK S. MAR/R, 0F CANTON, ILLINOIS rATENT OFFICE.
, ASSIGNOB OF ONE-HALF TO CHARL J.
WALKER, OE CANTON, ILLINOIS.
nner'r nonemznn.
Application filed September 30, 1919.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK 6. Mann, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Fulton and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Draft Equalizers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in draft equalizers or evcners for various uses to which draft animals are adapted to be attached, and consists of a simple and efficient device of this nature having various details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which. with the numerals of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view,
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail perspective view, and Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-8 of Figure 1. v v
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by numerals:
l, l designate complcniental plates having registering apertures in the shank portions thereof to receive bolts 3, whereby the lower portions of the two plates may be held in contact with each other, while the upper por tions flare outwardly and are spaced apart and have bolts 4 and 5 mounted in the opposite walls thereof. Links 6 are pivotally connected at corresponding ends to the bolt i and also to a bolt 7 passing through the evener beam 8, the latter being pivotally mounted at its inner end upon the bolt 4: and between the flaring portions of the plates 1.
The doubletree 9 has a clevis 10 pivoted Specification of Letters Patent.
being connected to the pivotal pin 5.

thereto which in turn is pivotally connected at 11 to one end of the beam 8, and 12 are singletrees connected to the doubletrees. A metallic band 18 is fitted over the inner end of the beam 8 and its ends brought together as shown in Figure 2 of the drawings, and held in clamping relation with the beam by a bolt let. The beam 15 has links 16 pivotally connected thereto through the medium of the bolt 17, the inner ends of the links 16 A metallic band 18 is bent over the inner end of the beam 15 and the ends of the band 18 are held together by means of a pivotal bolt 19 holding the parts of the band 18 in clamping relation with the beam 15.
Parallel portions of the two bands 18 and 18 are provided with registering apertures 13 and 18 respectively, adapted to receive respectively the bolts a and A link 19 connects the ends of the two bands, as shown. The usual doubletree 20 is connected by clevis 2 to the beam 15. and singletrees 21 are connected to the doubletree 20 as shown.
By the provision of an evener. embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that the evener beams may be of different lengths and may be utilized for securing different leverages, according as it may be desired to be used in connection with three, four'or five horse hitches.
ll hat I claim to be new is:
In a draft equalizer, pair of plates allixed togetherintermediate their ends and spaced apart at (ine end and flanged at the other end, the plates perforated in alinement in the spaced apart portion with a pair of perforations one at each side of the plates, a pair of trees, a strap bent around on one end of each of the trees with the ends of the straps projecting out and perforated, pivot pins passing through the perforations in the plates and through the straps and trees, and a link pivoted at the perforations in the straps.
In testimony whereof I hereunto allix my signature.
FRANK S. MARR.
