KEY-RING HOLDER.

Be it known that I, ROBERT F. MENKE, a citizen of the United States, residing. at Bessmay, in the county of Jasper and State of Texas, have invented certainnew and useful ln'iprovements in Key-Ring Holders, of which the following is a Specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. v
This invention relates to key ring holders and it is an object ofthe invention to provide a device of this kind adapted to be applied to a belt and having means whereby the device will stay put at a point on the belt which will be most convenient to the 'wearer and in a manner whereby is substantially eliminated the liability of the device slipping back and forth betweenthe belt loops of trousers or kindred garments and to hold the device against displacement during the period the belt is unbuckled.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved key ring holder whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, 1 will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view partly in sideelevation and partly in section illustrating a key ring holder constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position;
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation of the structure as shown in Figure 1 with the associated belt in fragment;
Figure 3 is a View in edge elevation of the loop member as herein employed with the parts in spaced assembly;
Figure 4 is a View in plan of the blank from which the loop member is formed.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved holder comprises a loop member 1 formed from a single blank B of metal properly folded, the opposite ends of the main portion a. of the blank being provided with the elongated and relatively nar row arms 2 and 3, the arm 3 being of a desired lengthgreater than 'thelength of the arm 2. lVhen thebody portion a of the blank B is folded to provide the loop the arms 2 and 3 are in overlying relation with their outer portions 2 and 3 returned, the return 2 being in close contact with the outer face of the outer portion of the arm 3 and the return 3 being in close contact with the inner face of the inner portion of the arm 2. The portions of the arms 2 and 3 and their returned parts'Q and 3 at their junctions are bended to provide an eye mem her 4 in which is adapted to interlock an end portion of a snap hook H.
The snap hook H is held against displacement with respect to the eye member 4 by the rivets 5 or the likedisposed through the arms 2 and 3 and the returned portions 2 and'ii, said rivets holding said parts in close contact one with the other. understood that the snap hook H is operatively engaged with the eye member 4 before the rivets 5 or the like-are made fast.
The extended portion of the returned portion 3 ofthe arm 3 isdisposed within'the loop 1 and is formed into a bow spring 6 which, when the belt is passed through the loop member 1, has tight frictional contact with the belt and thereby effectively holds the same against slipping movement along said belt so that the device when applied stays put at a point most convenient to the wearer and also substantially eliminates slipping of the device back and forth between the belt loops on trousers or kindred garments through which the belt is threaded. This spring 6 also provides effective means to hold the device securely to the belt during the period'the belt is unbuckled.
A key ring 7 of any desired type is adapted to be engaged with the snap hook H.
The snap hook H is preferably operatively engaged through the medium of a pinion 8 or the like carried by an end portion of the snap hook H and intersecting a pocket or recess 9 in such end portion of the snap hook H in which is received the eye memher 4.
The loop member 1 and the other parts comprised in the blank B from which they are formed may be of any preferred metal finished in any desired manner as by nickel or gold plated.
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a key ring holder constructed in accordance with my inven- It is to be a Gil tion is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
' I claim 1. A holder of the class described comprising a loop member formed from a single blank of material, said loop member at one end being provided with outwardly extend ing arms terminating in returned portions, the returned portion of one of the arms overlying the outer face or the second armand the returned portion of the second arm overlying the inner face of the first arm and extending within the loop member to provide a spring for close frictional contact with the portion of the belt disposed through the loop member, holding means disposed through the arms and through the returned portions, and means carried by said arms and their returned portions for retaining a key ring.
2. A holder of the class described comprising a loop member formed from a single blank of material, said loop member at one end being provided with outwardly extending arms terminating in returned portions, the returned portion of one of the arms overlying the out-er face of the second arm and the returned portion of the second arm overlying the inner face of the first arm and extending within the loop member to provide a spring for close frictional contact. with the portion of the belt disposed through the loop member, holding means disposed through the arms and through the returned portions, the outer portions of the arms being separated to provide an eye member, and a member for holding a key ring interlocked with said eye member.
A holder of the class described coinprising a loop member formed from a single blank of material, said loop member at one end being provided with outwardly extending arms terminating in returned portions, the returned portion of one of the arms overlying the outer face of the second arm and the returned portion of the second arm overlying the inner face of the first arm and extending within the loop member to provide a spring for close frictional contact with the portion of the belt disposed through the, loop member, holding means disposed through the arms and through the returned portions, the outer portions of the arms being separated to provide an eye member, a snap hook provided with a pocket to receive said eye member, and a pinion carried by the snap hook and disposed through the eye member for operatively connecting the snap hook to the loop member.
