Application January 29, 1947, Serial No. 725,139
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel adjusting and controlling devices.
An object of this invention is to provide novel and improved means for securing a cravat in a desired predetermined position.
Another object of this invention is to provide improved means for securing said control means to a conventional shirt button.
Another object of this invention is to provide improved means for retaining a conventional tie knot in the desired tight relation with the upper front portion of a collar.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device characterized by extreme simplicity and a device which comprises but a single body member having but two bends therein.
Another object of this invention is to provide means for resiliently biasing a tie knot in the desired relative rotation with a shirt collar, biasing the same outwardly therefrom.
Other objects and features of novelty reside in the particular construction of the instant invention and will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, in following the description of the preferred embodiment of the instant invention illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevational side view of the instant invention, showing the same in use with a shirt collar and a tie;
Figure 2 is a front view of a conventional shirt showing the instant invention attached thereto;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the preferred form of the instant invention, and
Figure 4 is, a plan view of the present invention showing the structure thereof in its flat form as the invention would appear in the manufacture thereof.
Referring now in detail to the preferred embodiment of the instant invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, like reference characters are used throughout to indicate similar elements.
This invention appertains to improvements in tie knot locking, adjusting and retaining means. Included in the purview of this invention, is the provision of means for preventing a tie knot from becoming loose, means for holding the tie upward in the desired location away from the chest of an individual, means for preventing the tie knot from slipping to one side or even under the collar, means for holding the tie neatly in place under most normal conditions.
A resilient clip generally indicated by the numeral i0 is provided to carry out the above mentioned purposes. The said clip I0 comprises a single strip of resilient material, preferably metallic. As seen from an inspection of Figures 3 and. 4., a form may be stamped from a sheet of spring metal (see Figure 4). It is noted that an end portion [2 is provided with a'longitudinal slot l4 therein, The said slot I4 is adapted to be received around a conventional shirt button. Obviously, this slot I4 will prevent downward movement of the invention when secured in its proper position as shown in Figure 2. A body member Iii is provided in the said invention and a piercing means I8 is provided on the said .body member. It is quite obvious from an inspection of Figure 1 that the said piercing means I8 is adapted to be received in a conventional tie knot. By this construction, it is apparent that the piercing means will retain a knot in its desired position since no relative movement will be permitted between the component portions of the said knot.
It is noted that after the form is stamped or otherwise formed from a spring metallic stock, the ends I2 and I8 are bent oppositely to each other. Obviously, the inherent resiliency of the said clip as now formed will constantl bias the knot 20 of a tie outwardly of a conventional shirt collar. It is noted that by piercing a knot as disclosed in Figure 1, no upward movement of the invention is permitted. Also, since no downward movement of the invention is permitted due to the slot 14, there is no danger in losing the invention, which is a common fault of many vanity items of this nature.
If so desired, the piercing member I8 may be made in the form of a needle, tapering to a very sharp point 22 at the end thereof. However, if the expense involved in making an accurate needle portion, is found to be excessive, a relatively rough needle end may be provided.
Due to the extreme mechanical simplicity characterizing this invention, a further description thereof is deemed unnecessary. However, it is understood that variations as to size and shape said body member to a shirt button, said body 15 member being fiat and having converging sides, said knot locking means being fiat and having sides converging to a point, said last mentioned sides forming a smooth continuation of said first mentioned converging sides, said securing means comprising a fiat strip having substantially parallel sides forming a continuation of said first 5 mentioned converging walls, a slot in said strip having substantially parallel side Walls.
