Description

March 2 1926. 1,575,102
L. A\. FISET Prlumm Filed Feb. 25, 1925 mvENTOR Patented Mar. 2, 1926.
UNITED STATES LOUIS A. FISET, OF AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR F ONE-HALF TO WILLIAM J.
PATENT OFFICE.
COLLINS, 0F AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK. V
PLUNGER.
Application filed February 25, 1925. Serial No. 11,576.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS A. Flsn'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amsterdam, in the county of 'Montgomery and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plungers, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to plungers and contemplates the provision of means pro- 1 vided thereon whereby the same may be positioned directly above a cess-pool or drain pipe and upon stress being exercised upon the upper portion thereof, wherein is included a hollow bulb member, the lower portion thereof will firmly engage the bottom of a sink directly above the cess-pool opening and when released the same will create a vacuum and suck the dirt or extraneous matter which has collected in the cess-pool or sewer.
When stress is exercised upon the upper half of the plungeiyit causes a compression of air, which forces the dirt through the drain and when released will create a vacuum which will loosen dirt or other extraneous matter.
Another object of the invent-ion is the provision of a threaded pipe secured intermediately thereof whereby the upper threaded end of the sewer pipe may be threadedly received therein and when compressing the upper portion thereof a vacuum will be created and the pipe will be flushed.
A further object of the invention is the provision of the interiorly threaded pipe contained therein which may receive the upper end of a short pipe and which may include upon the lower end portion thereof a spray nozzle which may be entirely submerged in a body of water when the top of the plunger is compressed and when the same is released, water will enter and be sucked up through the pipe and spray nozzle and into the upper portion of the plunger and when the same is released and compressed above the flowers or any other article desired to be sprayed, the same may then be compressed, and the water will be sprayed through the nozzle.
With the above and other objects in view,
the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction,
to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the appended claims. I
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the present invention showing the same connected to a spray nozzle.
Figure 2 is a similar view of the invention showing the same connected to the upper end of a sewer pipe. I
Figure 3 is a horizontal section of the invention per se and positioned directly above a sewer pipe, or cess-pool.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a bulb member comprising the up per portion of the above entitled invention and which is hollow and defines a space 11 therein, the lower end of this bulb member 10 including a relatively fixed fiat lower portion 12 which is adapted to lie flush with the corresponding portion 13 of a lower portion 14. These two portions have extending around and against their associations aband 15 which may be of rubber, metal or the like. The sections 10 and 14 are preferably con structed of rubber in order that the same may be resilient in their operation and adapted to the work applied. The portions 12 and 13 of the sections 10 and 14: have registering openings therein which are adapted to receive an interiorly threaded pipe 16 which has flange members 17 extending exteriorly thereof and engaging within the side walls of the opening in the sections 12 and 13.
In Figure 1 of the drawings, there is shown a spray nozzle 18 extending from a relatively short pipe 19 and which is adapted to be received within the threaded portion of the pipe 16 when the same is used for spraying. In Figure 2 of the drawing, the
invention is shown applied to the upper portion of a sewer pipe 20 whereby the same may be compressed and allowed to create a vacuum intermittentl in order to dislodge all extraneous matter which may have collected in the sewer pipe 20 in order that the said matter may pass into the sewer not shown. In Figure 8 of the drawing, it is clearly illustrated and apparent that the same may be positioned directly above a cess pool 21 and when the upper bulb like portion 10 is compressed, the lower portion 14 will be expanded and extend over a larger area than shown and firmly engage a surface 22 in order to prevent the entrance of air therein and upon compressing the upper por tion ofthe bulb like member 10 there will be clearly apparent gushes of air and suction will be exercised within the cess-pool 21 in order to dislodge all extraneous matter therein and allow the same to pass through a sewer, not shown.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, I claim: 7 p
1. A plunger member of the character described comprising an upper bulb like section,- a lower outwardly converging opensection, a band member securing the inner end portion of the sections, and a pipe member establishing communication from the outer section into the bulb-like section.
2. A plunger of the character described comprising an upper hollow bulb-like member, av lower section having an annular outwardly converging rim extending from the lower portion thereof, a band member associating the inner end portions of said sec- 3 tions and a pipe member positioned within the inner end portions of the section and establishing communication therebetween.
A plunger composed of upper and lower sections respectively, the upper section being'liollow and bulb-like, the lower section having an outwardly converging annular flange portion extending from the lower portion thereof, a band member extending around the inner portion of the 4 section and associating the same, and an interiorly threaded pipe member having flange members extending from the outer surfaces thereof, and embedded within the inner portions of the sections and establishing communication within the upper bulb-like sections.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
LOUIS A. FISET.
