Description
FebT 22, i938. s. M. MOYES SINK PARTITION INSERT Fild March 23, 193e We ga (.Ilfllllil Patented Feb. 22, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE SINK PARTITION INSERT Application March 23, 1936, Serial No. 70,282
2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in a sink partition insert and more particularly to the adjustable type which may be used for the purpose of dividing a sink into several compartments.
The principal object of my invention is to provide an improved sink partition insert of the kind described herein which can be adapted to the conventional type of kitchen sink and when thus used providing a means of rapidly converting a single compartment sink into a plurality of compartments.
Another object of my invention is to provide an improved sink partition insert of the kind described Which due to its particular construction provides a Water tight joint where the sink partition insert intersects the surface of the walls and bottom of the sink.
Other objects of my invention are constructive features which make it simple, compact, durable, economical, convenient, eicient and satisfactory for use wherever found applicable.
Many other objects and advantages of the construction herein shown and described will be obvious to those skilled in the art from the disclosures herein given.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts.
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the device as applied to a kitchen sink.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken therethrough.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section view therethrough.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged part sectional view.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged part longitudinal sectional View.
Fig. 6 is an enlarged end elevation.
In the drawing wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention, I indicates the conventional sink, 2 sink framing, 3 sink splash board, 4 sink apron, 5 sink drain, 6 sink outlet, l sink partition insert, 8 compartment formed by the insertion of the sink partition insert 1,9 indicates liquid in compartments 8.
The sink partition insert I is composed of the horizontal member I0 and the wall I I. The contact of the Wall I I with the sink bottom and side walls is made through flexible flanges I2.
It will be noted that the ilexible flanges I2 are so constructed that a space I3 is formed between them and the interior faces of the sink l. In the construction of the device this space can extend the full length of the flexible anges, or this space may only take part of the length of the ilexible flange.
In the placing of the improved sink partition insert, the device is inserted down into the sink, with suiiicient force which will expel the air from the space I3. It is obvious that this forms a vacuum causing the flexible flanges l2 to make a water tight joint Where they Contact the Surface of the sink. When the sink compartments are full of water, this pressure is transmitted to the flexible anges I2 which helps the anges I2 to make a water tight joint due to the hydrostatic pressure.
From the foregoing it will be seen that this device embodies several novel features in construction in providing an eiiicient improved sink partition insert.
Having thus described my invention, it is obvious that various immaterial modifications may be made in the same Without departing from the spirit of my invention; hence I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the exact form, construction, arrangement and combination of parts herein shown and described or uses mentioned.
What I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An improved sink partition insert comprising a partition wall member with a flexible flange in contact with the sink Walls, the aforesaid ange being concave, which forms a cavity between the outer contact edges of the arnge, thus forming a means of making a water tight joint by the formation of a vacuum between the ange edges upon pressing the insert into position.
2. An improved sink partition insert comprising a partition wall member with a flexible ange in contact with the sink Walls the aforesaid ange being concave, which forms a cavity between the outer contact points of the flange, thus forming a means of making a water tight joint by the formation of a vacuum between flange edges upon pressing the insert into position, and a top reinforcing member for stilening the sink partition.
