Hoops, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in hoops and more particularly of types used in playing outdoor games, known as grace hoops, because of the poise attained in its practice.

The main object of the invention is to pro vide a hoop of attractive appearance that may be propelled, controlled and withdrawn,

in connection with a stick of special formation, affording an amusement tending to render the player agile, graceful and compelling a wholesome exercise of the b dy.-

'Another purpose is to produce a sectional hoop, capable of being dismembered when not in use, to facilitate storage and transportation.

Another aim is in the provision of a stick having a neat appearing handle at one end and cranked elements at the other, carrying cushions for making contact with the hoop when in use.

These several aims and objects are accom lished by the novel construction and combination of arts hereinafter described and shown in tlic accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing an embodiment of the invention and illustrating its use.

Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the hoop elements engaging means, the view bein greatly enlarged and taken in ii; plane at t e longitudinal center of the Figure 3 is a similar view of the same but taken in a plane transverse to Figure 2. Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the stick or driver 1n detail.

The hoop in its preferred form is composed of two equal semi-circular sections 10 and 10, having radial, square cut ends, tightly abutting, when assembled, as at 11.

The preferred section of the hoop is that of a flattened ellipse, but it will be apparent that an desiredsection may be used with equal e ect.

' Each of the hoop sections contain recesses 12 and 12 extending in register inward from their ends and fixed -in the recesses 12' are rigid latch bars 13 reduced at their front cxtendmg ends 13 and held in rigid relation by pins 14 set in the walls of therecesses.

The outer ends 13 of the latch bars are bevelled at one of their corners 15, rearward of which are notches 16 in their upper edges. Tubular casings 17 pass transversely through the hoop sides 10, these casings being provided with slots through which the reduced ends of the latch bar pass, the casings having flanged heads 18 held to the hoop elements by screws 19.

Slidable in the casings 17 are plungers 20 containing transverse slots 21, registerablc with the recesses in the casings 17.

The inner ends of these slots are provided with detents 22 cngageable with the notches 16 of the latch bars and normally held in engaging position by springs 23 interposed between the ends of the plungers and bottom of the casings.

Said plungers have near their outer ends slots 24 engaging pins 25, limiting the movement of the plungers, as best shown in Figure 2.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the hoop may be separated into two equal arts by pressing the rounded outer ends. 0 the PATENT OFFICE. d

Loosely disposed on the elements 28 and 30 are sleeves 32 and 33 adapted to engage and press or pull the hand without noise and with little friction, in the manner disclosed in Fig; 1. A
