MULTIPLE-FACE FIGURE 'roY.
Application filed September My invention relates to a multiple face figure toy and has for its principal object the provision of a relatively simple toy figure having movable parts that may be manipulated to afford interest and amusement particularly to children, and which toy is particularly intended to arouse interest in the generally discussed question of evolution.
A further object of my invention is to pro vide a toy of the character referred to that may be easily and cheaply produced and which, by virtue of its simplicity, may be readily manipulated by children so as to produce amusing and interesting efiects.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a toy of my improved construction.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 8 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view through the head representing member of the toy.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a disk that is carried by the movable portion of the toy and which bears names that may be applied to the persons or animals that are representcd by the toy in its different positions.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing. 10 designates the body of the toy which may be formed of suitable material such as wood, metal or compressed fiber, and which is shaped to represent the body of a person clothed in a coat or jacket. Depending from the body 10 are leg-representing members 11 which may be covered or painted to represent clothing and suitable footwear, and projecting upwardly from the upper portion of body 10 is a head-representing member 12 and the upper portion of the latter may be formed so as to represent a cap such as 13.
of the bodyrepreifiting member 10. Arranged to rotate freely withifiboredfils a rod or stem 17, the upper portion of whfih projects into the chamber 14; and mounted on the upper end of said rod is a substantially spherical or ovate head-representing member 18 that fits snugly within chamber 14.
Painted or printed on the surface of member 18 and disposed substantially at right angles to each other are the representation of two faces that are substantially different in appearance, for instance, one face may represent a boy or man and the other face may represent an animal.
Mounted on the rod 17 and occupying chamber 16 is a disk 19 bearing on its pe riphery two different names that correspond with the pictured faces on member 18, and seated in said disk 19 and passing through rod 17 is a pin 20 bearing on its outer end a head or knob 21. This head lies on the periphery of disk 19 between the names that are printed thereon and serves as a handle for imparting rotary movement to the disk, rod and head-representing member 18.
In assembling the parts of my improved toy, member 18 is positioned in chamber 14 and disk 19 is positioned in chamberlfi. Rod 17 is now inserted upwardly through bore 15 and in so doing it passes through an aperture in the center of disk 19 and the upper end of said rod passes into a recess formed in member 18. Pin 20 is now inserted through disk 19 and through rod 17 thereby securing the moving parts of the toy in proper assembled position.
The manipulation of my improved toy is apparent and it is only necessary to engage the knob 21 and shift the same from one side of the toy figure to the other, thereby rotating rod 17 and member 18, and consequently causing one face to disappear from the opening at the front of chamber 141 and bringing another entirely different race into view Obviously the body of the toy may be shaped and painted so as to represent different figures and, if desired, the head portion 12 may be painted to represent hair or covered with hair-representing material.
A toy of my improved construction is comparatively simple, may be easily and cheaply produced and provides an interesting and amusing plaything for children.
It will be understood that minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved toy may be made and substituted for thoseherein shown and described without departing from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A multiple face figure toy comprising head and body portions, each of which is provided with a chamber, the chamber within the body portion being open on the front side of said body portion, a shaft extending lengthwise through the body portion of the toy figure and arranged for rotation therein, a substantially spherical member carried by the upper end of said shaft and occupying the chamber in the head portion of the toy figure, a disk secured on said shaft and occupying the chamber in the body portion of the figure and a pin seated in said disk and passing through said shaft, the head of which pin occupies the opening through the front of the body to the chamber therein and provides a handle for the manual operation of said disk.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature.
SAMUEL E. \VILSON.
