NEWTON n. CHARLTON, or CLAYTON, NEW MEXICO.
' SAFETY-RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Application filed April 13, 1925. Serial No. 22,808
T0 aZZ whom itmag/ concern:
Be it known that: I, NEWTON E. CHARL- arms, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clayton, in the county of Union and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety-Razor- Blade Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable 7 after described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing.
Figure 1 is a side elevation. V
Figure 2 is a back edge View.
Figure 8 is a fragmentary side elevation with the blade-holding slide removed.
' Figure 4. is an inner side elevation of the blade-holding slide. r V
Figure 5 is a transverse sectional viewon line 55 of Fig. 1. i
In the drawing above briefly described,
the numeral 1 designates a suitably shaped elongated handle having an elongated,
longitudinally disposed head 2 at one end."
This head is transversely tapered from its back edge 3 to its front edge at to lie in the requisite manner upon an ordinary. razor strop. The head 2 is formed with a longitudinal recess 5 which opens throng-hone of its flat sides and also opens through the back edge 3 and the front edge 4, said recess having a flat bottom and being .provided with forwardly converging, undercut end walls 6. This-recess isadapted to receive a safety razor blade 7, and its bottom is provided with any desired means for holding the blade in such position that one of .its edges projects forwardly from the front edge a of the head 2. -The present dis closure is designed'for holding one; well known form. of safety razor blade, 'andithe bottom of the recess 5 is formed with a pair of upstanding studs 8 for reception in openingsin said blade. I
A flat-sided slide 9 is snugly receivable in the recess 5 to clamp the blade 7 therein, said slide being t-ransversely tapered from its back edge to its front edge and having forwardly con'i' erging beveled ends 10 for sliding engagement with the undercut, forwardly converging end walls 6 of tre recess, so that when theslide is forced into the recess from the back edge of the head 2, it
will wedge tightly in place and will ef- If the studs fectively clamp the blade 7. 8 are of a length to proje t slightly beyond the blade 7, the inner face of the slidejS) will be provided with a pair of shallow groovesll, opening through the front edge of said slide, to receive the projecting ends of the studs, as shown.
It will be seen from the foregoingthat v the device is exceptionally simple and lIl8X- pensive, yet that it will firmly hold a safety razor blade in such position as to permit it tobe readily stropped upon an ordinary razor strep, or to permit honing of the blade whenever necessary. Onaccount of the ad vantages existing for the "details shown,
variations may be made and as above stated,
the device may be so constructed as tohold any well known form of razor blade.
I claim r A safety razor blade holder comprising a one piece handle having an integral longi-- tudinal straight-edged head at one end, said head being transversely tapered from its back edgeto its front edge and having an elongated recesswhich opens through said back and front edges and through one flat side of the head, said recess having straight under-cut end walls which converge toward said front edge, the bottom of said recess being provided with means to engage a safety razor blade and hold the latter against-shifting on said bottom, and an elongated slide plate free of connection with the head and handle and adapted to be forced into said recess from its back edge toward its front edge, said slide plate being transversely tapered from its back to its they are preferably followed, but within the scope of the invention as claimed, slight front edge and having beveled forwardly converging straight ends for tight wedging contact with theends of said recess.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
NEWTO CHARLTON.
