SAFETY-RAZOR Application filed March 18, 1931, Serial No. 523,548, and in Japan March 27; 1930.
This invention relates to a safety razor which can be applied at once on'the whetstone or the strop of any types without the need of any preparations.
Themain feature of this invention is that a guard plate is pivoted in sucha manner that when said guard plate turns upwardly, it is used as a whetting-handle and the rollers mounted on the pivots, are rotated as the guide at a definite angle with the blade.
The other feature of this invention is that a handle can be easily mounted to or removed from the guard, plate and two blade holders by means of the clamping part of said handle, and also by the same means, the blade holders are clamped to each other insuch a groove 8 and a manner that the blade can be firmly held by the blade holders.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a front view of the razor of this invention. a
Figure 2 is a sectional view thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan View of the parts.
Figure 4 is a plan View of the blade holder.
Figure 5 is a side view of the blade holder.
Figure 6 is a front view of the handle showing in a part by section.
Figure 7 is a plan View of a blade holder opening member.
Fig. 8 is a sectional view on an enlarged scale of part of the device shown in Fig. 7.
Referring to the numerals on the drawings, the guard plate 1 which is also used for a whetting-handle, has a handle supporting part 2 and two bearing parts 3 projecting on both sides of the handle supporting part 2. Each bearing part 3 holds one end of a pivot 5 on which a roller 4 is mounted.
This safety razor is provided withtwo blade holders 11. Each blade holder, as shown in Figures 4. and 5,has a handle sup porting part 6 at the central position and p two projecting plates7 at its both positions,
said projectingj plate has a. seml-circular earing surface 9 for the pivot 5. And this blade holder has a lug 10 on a y i the one side of the parts between the handle supporting part 6 and the projecting plates said lug acts as a stop for the rear edge of the blade Between the semi-circular; grooves; 8"v of two 1 blade holders, theopening inember ld forthe. blade holders is inserted,
saidmember; as. shown. Figure l is formed;
withaspindle lilosfioval section and a. small handle 13 projected to" the end'of the spindle l2.
' :In this invention, as. shown in Figure-i 2,.the'i i sliapedi springs. 15 are fittedxonthelbearingi parts of; the 1 blade holders and the handle 161 is secured to the supporting parts 2: and 6.
ofithe" guardiplate and the, blade holders as shown in Figure 1. athreade'd-soc'keuWat its end in which a screwed. stein? is engagedil T1 The screwed stem is provided with a clamping part 20 of square section between a cap 19 and the screwed part 18. This clamping part 20 is inserted into open ended slots of the handle supporting parts 2 and 6, then by screwing the stem into the threaded socket 17 the bandle 16 is firmly secured to said supporting parts.
When the small handle 13 turns upward- 1y to the right angle, the spindle 12 of oval section is rotated and the semi-circular grooves 8 are separated from each other against the springs 15, accordingly two blade holders 11 are opened so that the blade 21 having a cutting edge on one face only is easily put into between the blade holders 11 until the rear edge comes in contact with the stops 10 of the blade holders. And when the small handle 13 turns to the original position, the spindle 12 is rotated in the position as shown in Figure 2 so that the blade 21 can be firmly held.
This invention has the following advantages:
The handle 16 can be easily mounted to or removed from the guard plate and the blade holders by means of the clamping part 20 of the square section and also by the same means, the handle supporting parts 2 and 6 of the guard plate and the blade holders are perpendicular with;
And the'handle l6 has.
perfectly attached to each other, therefore the blade can be firmly held.
In the case of whetting the blade, the handle 16 is removed and then the guard plate 1 is turned upwardly around the pivots 5 as shown by the chain-line in Figure 2. In such a manner, the roller 4 and the blade 21 are laid at a definite angle to each other on any whet-stone or strop, and the blade can be Whetted at once by the guiding action of the rotating rollers Without the need of anIvIpreparations.
aving thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: g V g 1. A safety razor comprising a blade, a pair of blade holders, havin projection lugs at their ends, forming bearings for pivot bolts, pivot bolts seated in said bearings, springs arranged and adapted to clamp the holders against the blade, a guard plate having pivot lugs and rotatably mounted on said plvot bolts, rollers mounted on said bolts between the projecting lu s of the'blade holders and the pivot lugs of the I guard plate, and manually operable means for separating the blade holders for insertion and removal of the blade.
2. A safety razor as claimed in claim 1, in which the means for separating the blade holders consist of an oval stem fitting corresponding recesses in the blade holders, and having a handle part projecting at right angles to the stem.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature NOBUO MORISAWA.
