HARRY MANKAMEYER, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
SELF-CLOSING CASE.
Application filed March 15, 1924. Serial No. 699,549.
To" @ZZ whom t may concer/n:
Be it known that I,- HAnnY A. MANHA- iinriin, a citizen oic the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State lof Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Closing Cases, of which the following is a specification.
'ilie invention has for an object to effect iinproveineiitsin closure operating devices particularly suited to use in sign displaying cases Liaving hinged doors.
An important object of the invention is to provide a de sirable ease suitable for displaying on the exterior of a building the cards exposed by to be viewed from the street by vende-rs, to signify when a particular coninio-dity is desired, so that when such a vendor passes he will stop and deliver'liis product. The device ainis to provide a construction which will insure protection of paper cards against the weather and dirt, while at the saine tinie permitting the reinoval and insertion of such cards as niay be desired, or the change of position of cards in the device from concealed to display position.
lt is a specific object of the invention to vpresent a novel spring closure operator vv'liich is readily assembled, which is liable in a ininiiniini degree to inipairinentcasually or by wear and deterioration. 1t enables thev production of the device by the use of stock materials involving inexpensive Inacliine o*AL erations for its iorination,
and no assenibly at the factory in its preparation tor sale. At the saine tlnie it enables the use of with a low cost a high grade of inaterial for fabrication iii the resilient elenient and its heat treatment.`
f The invention also aiins to present a spring closer adapted to be'asseinbled in a nove-l `inanner, and enabling the release ot the door or other element 'from its action without renioval o't astenings, and without requiring special iiiovable securing' devices to hold the parts in engaged and disengaged relations.
which- Figure 1 1s a `front elevation of a case Constructed in accordance with n'iy invention. i
Figure case, open.
Figure 3 is vertical cross section of the device.
Figure 4i is a siniilar view showing the device opened.
Figure 5 is a 'i'ragnicntary section on the line 5 5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a de ail cross section of the spring guide. i
Figure 'i' is a plan ot the blank for the guide.
There is illustrated a case 10 with a hinged cover 11 glazed for observation of the contents o the case. The case body is ordiiiarily formed of No. 20 gauge sheet nietal, and includes a back 12 and integral sides 13 and top 14 and bottoni 15, In failiricating` the body 'troni its blank the bottoni is 'formed with ears 1G which are turned inward within the sides 13 and soldered thereto and these overlapped portions are apertured to 'forni a bearing for av hinged rod or rivets indicated at 17.
The cover is a rectangular traine, including side and top nienibers 1S and 19 and a bottoni nienibcr 2P, veach inciiiber being L- sliaped in cross section, providing enter flanges 21 on the top and sides fitting snugly over corresponding parts oi the liody ot the case, and inner glass mounting iianges of faniiliar forni orniing the front side of the cove-r. rlhe bottoni nieinher 2O is provided vvith an apron flange 23 corresponding; to the enter iianges of the other parts, but arranged to lie within the case. For this purpose it is not connected 'with the adjacent outer flanges, slots Q41: being iornied between the bottoni ineiiiber and the iianges 21 at each side, the slots extending also a short distance into the parts iiiniiediately adjacent the flanges 21, which thus project at the lower part of the cover as cars beside the case body, and have the hinge pivot eleinents 17 engaged therein. The cover is thus permit-ted to open without obstructive interference between its parts and the case body, while at the saine tinie presenting a snug closui'e. The iiaiige may be set so as is a perspective of the empty to resiliently press against the bottoni 15
