WASMUTI-I, `OF HUNTINGTON, INDIANA', rASSIGNOR TO WASMUTEI-ENDL i i GOTT COMpPANY, ANDREWS, INDIANA, A CORPORATION OF INDIANA DOOR WITH HINGE Application filed October 7, 1929. Serial No. 397,987.
.I This invention is a novel improvement in cabinet doors with-hinges such as shown in my U. S( Letters'Patent No. 1,727,319; and
Y Serial No. 388,966, filed Jaugust 28, 1929, each hingerhavi'ng a straight swinging leafV applied to the door 1n such manner that the 10 swinging leaf willgoverlap and conceal the stationary pad Vof the-'hinge onthe door` fra-me, and will' extend into va recess inthe rearnface of the'door so as to be concealed from View from the outside of the door when Y closed; lthe recess for the swinging leaf of the hingebeing closed by a removable fra-me o n the rear face of the door so as to alsov conceal theV swinging leaf from view when the door is opened; whereby the front yand i 2.0 rear faces of the door may be left intact and unencumbered by the swinging leaf ofl the ,hingerv and its fastening means. The l' above'featurelends tothe door anaspect of neatness and simplicity. r
f Other minor objects of the invention g be. hereinafter set forth.y f
will
I will explain ythe vinvention with refer-l v ence to the accompanying drawing which Y illustrate one practicalembodiment thereof to enable'others to adopt and use the saine; and will summarize in the claims the novel features of construction, and novel combinations of parts, for which protection is desired.
In said drawingszf Fig. 1 is a fragmentary front elevation of a'cabinet door in closed position showing the adjacent portions of the` door frame, and showing a hinge applied thereto in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the door showing same Vin open position.
Fig. 3 fis a transverse-section on the line 3-8 Fig. 1.
' As shown, the stationary pad 15 of the hinge is applied to a door frame A, and the swinging leaf 18 applied to a door of slightly larger area than the frame A, said door slightly overlapping the same frame.
CC Preferably the door is formed as set forth in my cope'nding application Serial No. 388,966, filedoAugust 28, 1929, .sa-ne briefly comprising front and rear plates 1 and 2 respectively separated'by an enclosed skeleton frame 8 and provided with a similar outer skeleton frame 4 removably attached to f the rear frace of the door; the whole constituting a light hollow door to whichthe hinges are readily attachable as hereinafter explained. Frame 8 is preferably made of wood or the lilrey and in exterior dimensions corresponds to the desired exterior size and form of the complete door.
Front plate 1 is preferably sheet metal and of larger area than that of frame 3, and the edges of sheet 1 are turned over and around the outer edges of frame 3 and turned bach, as at lar/,on the rear side ofthe door to entirely enclose the front and outer edges of frame 3 and to partially cover the rear sine of frame 3. The metal of sheet 1 maybe out away at the corners thereof so that the inturned portions 1a will make a. neat mitred joint at the corners of the'door. hese inturned portions 1a vof the sheet 1 underlie the outer edges of the iframe fl as shown iu metal, and is of larger area than the inner boundaries of theframes and but is of somewhat smaller area than the field bounded by the inner edges 1a of the intilrned poi tions of sheet 1.
The frame e', preferably of wood or any other desired material, is of less external size than the inner frame 3, and is removably secured to the frame 3 basl: of the door with the outer edgesof frame 1 overlying the inturned edges la of the sheet 1 and also the edges of the sheet 2, the frame 4 being fastened to the frame 3 by means of suitable fastenings such as screws 5, which pass into frame 3 'between the adjacent edges of the sheets 1a and 2 as shown in Fig. 2.
The hinge consists of a stationary pad 15 having perforated lugs 18 for supporting the pintle 17 g and a swinging leaf 18 which overlaps the pad 15 and has one or more perforated lugs 16a positioned between the above Y Fig. 3) when the door is closed.

The hinge is appliedto the door frame. i ,by securing the pad 15 upon thefront face ofvfraine A' i s size to suit-the lea 1S, and b being of p f the turned portion through the bach 1ct ofplac Y of the door and into the rear face ofi Y the trarne nieinber 3, the'recess being of such depth that the inturned portions lawill neY flush with the stationary pad (as shownV in secured vin position in said recess by iii-sar andbynieans of a'bolt 19,1

' franie. Bolt 19 is disposed inthe gap be tween the edges of plates 1a and r2 die rectly under the rear frame 4-,Which may be gouged out asiat 4ain Way of the nut on bolt 19. Hence when the rea-r fraine `4v isV applied*7 the recesses 8a, bolts 19, screivs 18e, and theportion of swinging leaf 18 underthe Vvfreine 4 will all be concealed from view from so, the rear side ofthe door; andthe franie 4 Willalso cover up' the gap between tlieedgesV of, plates la* andv y e, i n Y lffhen the door Bis Closed the entered# ofthe rear faceof the door will seat squarely y` against thefrontface ofy door iraine land 'the Y sii/'ingiiigv leaf .18 and its fastening bolts and sisting of apad and aleaf pivoted upon and overlapping the pad7 each leaf entering a recess; thek recesses being of lsuch depth that the recessed face of the `door will be substantially flush With the pad; means for securing 505 each leaf in its recess; anda ineinber on the door covering rthe recesses.
2. ln a combination as set forth in claiin 1;
' said door comprising an innerfraine, acover sheet on the front face of said franie having l its edges bent over the edges of the franie and dapped back upon the rear face thereof; said recesses extending through the `lapped portions vof the sheet and into the inner frame/5v Y and said 'recesscovering member comprising. e an outer frame secured to the back Aof the inner frame and overlapping the edge ofthe sheet.
'3. In a combination as set forth in claiinl;
vsaid door having a cover sheet; and said se- A curingineans"including a concealed bol-t pass- Leai' 18 lis facing; e a pad and a straight leaf pivoted upon and f ing through the leaf between the sheetl and the recess covering ineinber.
4. In combination, a door frame7 adoor having recesses in the rear face and having its edges slightly overlapping said frame; and
Vconcealed hinges connecting'the door and fraine, each hinge consisting ofa pad secured to the frame and a pivoted leaf overlapping" Y the pad -and entering a recess; the recesses being of such depth thaty the rear face of the` door will vbe substantially.flush With the fraineivhen lthe door is closed; means for se` lcuring eachV leaf in its recess; and a member on the door covering the recesses.
