Description
J. P. SWITZEB.
Milk--Safes.
Patented Nov. 17,1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JUSTIN P. SWITZER, OF MADISON, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MILK-SAFES.
Speoification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 157.037, dated November 17, 1874; application fi1ed May 20, 1874.
T0 all whom it mag concern:
- Be it known that I, J US'LIN P. SWITZER, of Madison, in the county of Dame and State of Wiseonsin, have invented a new and useful,
and provisiou Safes in which a revolving shafts' having supporting arms or shelves is inclosed within a cylindrieal case, and it eonsists in the peeuliar construction of the parts, es more fully hereinafter sei; forth and ola-imed.
My safe is construeted of two semi-cylindrica1 parts, A aud A, eael1 part having a semicircular head and bottoxn. The tWo parts A A are conneoted at both top and bottom, on the inuer sides, by the break-joiut strips B B, which are eonnect-ed by the screws a a, so th:it they oa-n be detached a1: Will and the cy1- inder separated for transportation or' storin g. D represents a vertical shafb, having four fiat sides and a journa-l ad; its top'and bottom. The journals of this shaft fit into openings in eaoh of the blooks B, a-nd are fitted so thatthey easily revolve. Upon this shaft, on all four sides, are shelves to support: the milk.-pans 01 provis ions. These shelves are arranged in pairs, the alternate pairs being ab right 130 the others, es shown. These shelves are either made of hoop-iron er of wire, and are U-shaped, so that one prong of the wire 01 band is attaehed to one face of the post, and the other prong to the other face.- The two ends of eaoh shelf are bent inward, as seen at x x, Fig. 2, and the post is perforated to reoeive these bent ends. A wire staple, y, is caught over ea-ch end of the wires or bands, and driven into the post, so that the shelf is rigidly attached thereto, but may be easily detached therefrom by extraoting the staples. By this form of shelf and conneetion any one shelf rnay be tanken from the shaft, or all may be removed for packing the parts in a small oompass for shipping 01 storing. Above one or more or all of the shelves is an eyebolt, G, for the purpose of securing a pan in plaoe upon the shelf as the shaft is rotated. These bolts ean be turned up, so that; the eye is horizontal, and allow the pan 130 be set; under, and then, by turning it down in a vertical position 0f the eye, the pau Will be caught and held. On the exterior of the ease may be placed. one or more hinged shelves, H, made of wire, and supported by a leg for holding articles ouside of the oase. lt Will thus be seen with my invention that the entire safe may be taken apart readily and stored or shipped in a sma-ll compass; or,if any of the shelves may become bent; o1 broken, they ean be easily (1eta-ched from the shafo and repaired 01 new ones replaced.
One of the pars of the c ylinder is provided with a (1001, O, as shown.
H2Wing thus fu1ly desoribed my invention, What I claim is'- In combination with the two-part c ylindrical case A A, the detachable break -joint strips B B and shaft D, with its U-shaped arms E E, all substantially as sei; forth.
J USTIN P. SWITZER. Witnesses:
