NITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
MORRIS SEIDEL, OF HARRISON, ARKANSAS.
EGG-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,659, dated December 21 1886.
Application filed March 31, 1886.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, MORRIS SEIDEL, of Harrison, in the county of Boone and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Egg-Gases, which improvement IO tive View of the under side of the cover detached, and. Fig. 3 a perspective view of the case.
Heretofore in packing cases for shipping eggs it has been found necessary to use hay or [5 other packing material in the boxes beneath the cover to prevent the eggs from coming in contact therewith.
My invention is designed to obviate the use of such material and the consequent litter and inconvenience, inasmuch as at the under side of the lid I provide a padded cover having spiral springs connected directly with the cover, so that the contents of the case are held firmly in place, thus preventing the eggsfrom 2 5 becoming broken under any circumstances, all
of which will now be set forth in detail.
In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents an ordinary shipping case for eggs, having the a usual partitions, B,ai1d vertical racks O therein.
0 I design to make the cases A of such a height that there will be a small space betweenthe upper part of the racks 0, containing the eggs, and the inner face of the lid D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
5 On the under side of the lid D, I provide a series of spiral springs, E, secured thereto, having at their lower ends an inner cover, F, attached to them. Four of these springs E are preferably attached to each of the inner cov- Scrial No. 197,328.
(No model.)
breakage of the eggs obviated, if by accident the case should be tipped over or otherwise roughly handled.
In packing the eggs any soft substance, G, may be placed in the bottom of the case, upon which the lower end of the eggs will rest.
The cover D is secured to and upon the case by means of the metal hooks d in its flanged ends d. These flanges are adapted to rest on the cleats a at each end of the case, while the hooks passing down through the slots a in said 0c cleats their ends are turned round to hook under said cleats.
Having described my invention,w hat llclaim as new isy In combination with the case A, having end cleats, a, slotted at a, and the rack C, the cover D, having on its under side the springs E and padded inner cover, F, and provided in its flanged ends d with the hooks d, substantially as and for the purposes described. l
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, this 27th day of February, 1886, in the presence of witnesses.
MORRIS SEIDEL.
