Description
- S. TAYLOR. Tram-Staffs for-Trueing Millstones. No.156,895. a v Patented Nov.17,1874.
l llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll ,Izavezz' tar UNITED STATES PATENT GFFIG SIDWELL TAYLOR, OF WAYNESVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN TRAM-STAFFS FOR TRU ING MILLSTONES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,895, dated November 17, 1874 application filed September 30, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDWELL TAYLOR, of Waynesville, in the county of Warren and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Tram-Staffs for Facing Millstones, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to tram-staffs for facing millstones; and consists in an arm swinging about a fixed pillar or spindle, said pillar being faced to a true surface at the base, which rests on the bushing of the stone, said bushing being also faced for the purpose of giving a true bearing-surface in any relative positions of the pillar and bush.
Figure 1 represents an elevation of a millstone with my invention applied to it. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
A represents a millstone, the bushing B of which is faced 011' to a true surface to receive the base 0 of the pillar D, which is also faced true, so that the pillar will set firmly on the bushing in any position. At D on the pillar fits an arm, E, with jaws partially encircling the pillar and fitting closely to it. eis a brace joined to the arm E, and having at the top a cap, F, which fits over the top of the pillar, and is free to revolve thereon. A set-screw, G, in the cap serves to raise or lower the arm E, and thus adjust it to the proper height. The screw H serves to raise or lower the end of the arm E by moving the end of the brace e in or out, thus giving a bosom to the stone when desired.
Thus it will be seen the arm E always revolves in the same plane, and, as the pillar rests on the bushing, and the surfaces of contact have been trued, the staff may be entirely removed, and then replaced in position without affecting its working.
The great simplicity of my device gives it another advantage, in addition to the above, over other tram-staffs in use, which are for the most part very complex, and easily get out of order, and consequently are very difficult of adjustment, whereas my device has but two adjustments, and they are not at all liable to get out of order.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a millstone, the bush B, having a trued surface toreceive the pillar O D of the tramstaff, as described.
2. The pillar O D, having a trued basefitting on the trued surface of the bush B, as described, in combination with arm E, cap F, and screw G, substantially as shown and set forth.
SIDlVELL TAYLOR.
