Description

(No Model.) I
W. C. HALE.
MILLSTONE BALANCE.
Patented May 8,1883.
l l I a M I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. HALE, OF AUSTINS SPRINGS, TENNESSEE.
lt'llLLSTONE-BALANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,273, dated May 8, 1883.
Application filed January 23,1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM (J. HA LE, of Austins Springs, in the county of Washington and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Millstone-Balances; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being bad to the accompanying drawin gs, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in millstone-ba-lances; and it consists in the combination of the balance-rynd, a cup-shaped frame which is secured thereto, an adjustable bearing-block, and set-screws for moving the block so as to change the angle of the spindle, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a vertical section of a portion of a grinding-mill which embodies my invention. Fig. 2 is an inverted view of the same.
Arepresents the spindle, and B thebearingblock, in which the upper end of the spindle is journaled. This bearing-block is made octagonal in shape, and is placed inside of the cup-shaped frame 0. For the purpose of adjusting this block laterally in the frame 0, and thus adjusting the spindle in any desired direction, a set-screw, D, ispassed through each of the sides of the frame so as to bear against the edges of the bearing-block. Whenever the spindle gets out of true it is only necessary to slightly loosen the screws upon one side of the block and to tighten up the screws upon the opposite side, when the spindle will he returned to a vertical position, so as to cause the stone to run perfectly true. This frameC is secured to thebalancerynd G, which passes up over its top, and which has its ends it turned outward, so as to catch in suitable recesses, b, made to receive it. By thus securing: the two parts together both parts are adjusted in position at the same time.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- The combination of the balance-rynd G, having the cup-shaped frame 0, rigidly secured thereto, the adjustable block B, set-screws D, and the spindle A, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM CARTER HALE.
