Description

G. L. BUWWINGS.
Grind-Stone Frames.
Patented Dec-31,1872.
NITED STATEs GEORGE L. CUMMINGS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN GRINDSTONE-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. fl34l,363, dated December 31, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. CUMMINGS, of the-city,'county, and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Grindstone-Frame's, of which the following is a specification:
The first part of my invention relates to the 'castin g of the legs solid to the frame or watertrough. The second part of my invention relates to the reversible rest, the top plate h of which is placed in any position but that of right angles to its vertical part H, so that by reversing the rest the top plate can be made to incline to or from the stone, as may be desired. The rest is secured to the standard by means of a set-screw or otherwise. The third part of my invention relates to the adjusting or truing the stone on the sides by means of bevel faced flanges and bevelfaced washers, dispensing with the wedging heretofore necessary.
Figure 1 is a partial side elevation and a partial vertical longitudinal section through the center of the frame. Fig. 2 is a plan of the frame and stone. Fig. 3 is a partial vertical longitudinal section of frame and section of rest and rest-standard. Fig. 4 is an end elevation. Fig. 5 is a section through center of flanges and washers. In Fig. 1, A is the stone, hung on the shaft 1). B is the frame or water-trough, cast in two halves and secured together by bolts, as shown. C O are the legs, cast solid to the frame or water-trough. G is the rest-standard; H, the vertical part; and h, the top plate of the rest; K, set-screw.
In Fig. 2, A is the stone; B, the frame or water-trough; D D, shaft; E E, bevel-faced flanges; e e, bevel-faced washers; F F, nuts; G G, rest-standard; h, top plate of rest; K, set-screw.
Similar letters on the other figures refer to similar parts.
The stone is trued on its sides by adjusting the faces of the flanges E E and the faces of the washers e e and securing them by the nuts F F.
I do not claim adjusting the rest vertically by means of a slot in its vertical part 5 but I claim as my invention- 1. Casting the legs (J solid to the frame or water-trough, as shown.
2. A reversible rest, It, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
3. The bevel-faced flanges E E and the bevel-faced washers e e, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
GEORGE L. CUMMINGS.
