Description

PATENT QFFIGE.
EDWARD DEEDS, OF BRIGHTON, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUSHES FOR MILL-SPINDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,751, datcd May 12, 1874; application filed March 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD Dnnns, of Brighton, in the county of Washington and 7 State of Iowa, have invented a new and usethe side ribs.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the bush, which is made of cast-iron, and set permanently in the center of the stone. B represents the spindle, which passes up through the center of the bush, as seen in the drawing. The bush is made with recesses 0, (three ordinarily,) in which are fitted the boxing-pieces D, the faces of which bear against the spindle, and support it. These pieces D are made with faces hollowed out to fit the spindle. Their backs are beveled from the center, as seen at E in Fig. 2, the bearing-surface of the back being at the point F. On each of the sides of these pieces is a rib, G, (see Fig. 3,) F being the bearing-point of the back. The ribs G are the bearing-points of the sides, which come in contact with the sides of the recesses in the bush. The pieces D can rock and readily adjust themselves to the spindle. H represents awedge-shaped piece placed. in the back of the recess, in rear of each of the box-pieces D, against which the pieces D bear as seen in Fig. 2. I is a set-screw, which passes through the upper ends of these pieces 4 H, the ends of which bear against the back of the recess, as seen at J. By turning these screws the boxes D are forced up to the spindle, while at the same time they readily adjust themselves to the spindle. These boxpieces D may be made of any suitable material, and faced with babbitt-metal, if desired. The pieces H are preferably of metal, but may be of any suitable material.
By this arrangement it will be seen that the boxing is adjusted to the spindle-bearing in the most accurate and perfect manner, while any looseness caused from friction and wear, is easily taken up by turning the set-screws.
Having thus described my invention,Icla-i1n as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with bush having cavities O, and beveled boxes D having side ribs G, of the vertical pieces H, tapering from bottom to top, and at the latter point made adjustable by a screw at rightangles thereto, as set forth.
EDWARD DEEDS.
