Description
(3. T. MCCREADY Dec. 1, 1925- VINE TURNER Filed July 14, 1925 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES T. MGGREADY, OF QNLEY, VIRGINIA.
VINE TURNER.
7 Application filed July 14, 1925.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES T. Mo- CREADY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Onley, in the county of Accomac and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vine Turners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in vine turners and has relation more particularly to a device of the general character especially designed and. adapted for use in connection with a cultivator and is an i1nprovement of my United States Patent 1,516,021 granted Nov. 18, 1924.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved bracket for supporting the turner which can be conveniently attached to a cultivator frame or the like and means whereby the position of the turner with respect to the ground can be regulated in accordance with the preferences of practice. 7
Other objects will appear as the disclosure progresses.
The drawings are merely intended to indicate a possible embodiment of the invention. It is obvious thatthe actual needs of manufacture may necessitate certain mechanical changes. It is therefore not intended to limit the'invention to the embodiment illustrated but rather to define such limits in the appended claim.
For a more detailed understanding of the invention attention is now called to the drawings in which a preferred embodiment is shown illustrated. In these drawings like parts are designated by like reference characters in all the views.
Fig.1 is a perspective view of a cultivator having vine turners applied thereto and constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a top view of the supporting arm.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section on line 414 of Fig. 2,
Fig. 5 is a modified form of the turner,
Serial No. 43,599.
Referring now to the drawings in detail numeral 1 designates the side bars of a cul- Attached to the bar 4- is a movable clamp 6 having a hole 7 for the insertion of the turner 8 and screws 9 and 10 for attaching the clamp 6 to the base 4. For fastening the turner in place in a vertical plane a set screw 11 is provided.
The operation of this device is as follows:
The bracket 2 is attached to thecultivator or the like by bolts which pass through the bolt holes 12 and 13 in the manner as shown in Fig. 1. The turner 8 is then passed through the hole 7 and fastenec in place. For adjusting the turner in a horizontal plane, the screws 9 and 10 are loos ened and the clamp 6 having a slot 14 therein will then be able to swing on the pivoting screw 9 or will be able to be moved inward and outward of the cultivator.
Claim:
In a device of the class described in combination, a bracket, a bar integral and at right angles with the said bracket, a movable clamp, a widened portion at one'end of the said clamp having a curved slot therein,
the other end of the said clamp being thickened, means for allowing a vine turner to pass through the said thickened portion of the said clamp, set screws opposite sch other for clamping the said vine turner in place, one of the set screws acting as a pivot on which the said clamp swings, another screw passing through the said curved slot and a slot in the said bar, the said clamp adapted to move parallel with the said bar and swing on said bar and be fastened to the said bar. 7
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES T. MQOREADY.
