To all whom z'lf may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES H. SAUN- DnRs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gainesville, in the county of Hall, State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Wheeled Disk Fenders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to fenders for plows and cultivators, and has for its object to construct a device of this character employing rotary disks.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this class which may be readily attached to the beam of a plow or the like, and one in which the disks may be adjusted laterally and longitudinally as the occasion mayy require.
Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrifcing any of the advantages of the inven-y tion.
In the drawing -Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the manner in which the device is applied to the beam of a plow. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device, detached. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a beam of a plow and 2 the shovel thereof, both of whichare of the conventional form.
The fender consists of a bar 3 of suitable metal and has its outer end l bent rearwardly, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing. Formed near the inner end of the bar 3 is a longitudinal slot 5, said slot permitting the longitudinal adjustment of the disks 6. The disks 6 are connected to the bar 3 by arms 7, each of which are provided with vertical and horizontal portions 8 and 9 respectively. The vertical portions 8 are each provided with stub axles 10, and upon which the disks 6 are rotatably mounted.
The horizontal portions 9 'of the arms 7 are each provided with slots 11, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
Slidably mounted upon the bar 3 is a bracket 12, said bracket being provided with side flanges 13, which extend upwardly and Uform a guideway for the horizontal portions of the arms 7. The bracket 12 is further provided with downwardly extending end flanges 11 which lie flush against the sides of the bar 3 and prevent lateral movement of the bracket, but at the same time allows the same to be adjusted longitudinally upon the bar 3. The bracket 12l is provided with a central aperture l5 which registers with the slot 5 formed in the bar 3, and when in their registered relation a clamping bolt 16 is passed therethrough. The slotted horizontal portions of the arms 7 are so arranged in relation to the bracket 12 that the bolt 16 passes also through the slot-S111 therein, the clamping bolt 16 being operable to allow lateral adjustment of the arms 7 and disks 6 as the occasion may require, and the slot 5 in the bar 3 allowing longitudinal adjustment of the bracket 12 toward and away from the shovel 2 of the plow.
The device is secured uponthe beam 1 by a clamping bar 17 having adjusting screws passed through its opposite ends and through openings formed in the plate 18 secured to the extreme inner end of the bent portion t of the bar 3.
If desired, and under certain conditions, one disk may be employed, the other being readily detached from the bracket 12.
lVhat is claimed, is
1. In combination with a plow beam, of a bar detachably connected thereto, said bar having a longitudinal slot, a bracket mounted for longitudinal adjustment on said bar, disk supporting arms having slots formed in their horizontal portions and adapted for lateral adjustment upon said bracket, and a clamping bolt passing through said longitudinal slot and the slots formed in the horizontal portions of the arms, to hold the same in their adjusted position.
2. In combination with a plow beam, of a bar detachably connected thereto, said bar having a longitudinal slot formed in one of its ends and its other end bent for attachment to the beam, a bracket having upwardly extending side flanges and downwardly extending end flanges, said end ianges lying iiush against the sides of the bar, disk supporting arms having their horizontal portions slotted and adjustably mounted between the side flanges of the bracket, a clamping bolt passing through the longitudinal slot formed in said bar and through the slotted horizontal portions of the disk supporting arm whereby said arms and disks are adapted for longitudinal and lateral adjustment with respect to the bar.
3. The combination with a plow beam, of a bar connected thereto and havinon a longitudinal slot, a bracket mounted igor longitudinal adjustment on said bar, disk supporting arms including horizontal portions having registering openings therein, and adapted for lateral adjustment upon said bracket, and a clamping bolt passing through said longitudinal slot and openings inthe horizontal portions of the disk arms to hold same in their adjusted position.
