S. M. CLARK.
Paper Boxes.
Patented Oahu-,1874.
W'rmissrgf UNITED STATES PATENT j GEEIGE,
SPENCER M. CLARK, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER BoxEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,333, dated October 27, 1874 application filed September 12, 1874.
' full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying v drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure lis a plan view of the blank used for the construction of my box. Fig;'2 is a perspective view of said box, with its cover closed, and Fig. 3 is a like view of the same, with its cover open. ,y
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the igures.
The design of my invention is to afford a cheap, easily constructed, and convenient receptacle for containing wood-screws; and to this end, it consists, as a new article of manufacture, in the hereinafter-described box, vsubstantially as and for the purpose specified.
In the annexed drawing, Fig. 1 shows the blank for forming my improved box, which blank, by means of certain lateral cuts Vand transverse and longitudinal lines, is divided into a series of rectangular sections, as seen.
Commencing at the right end of the blank, the iirst section, A, of the central row, forms a iiap or inner cover, the second and fourth sections, B and D, respectively, form opposite sides, the third section, C, the bottom, and the fifth section, E, the top- 0r cover, of the box, while upon each side of the same the second section, G and G, form sides, the first and third sections, F and H, form supplemental sides, and
the fourth sections, I and I, form flaps for inclosing said sides when the cover is closed.
To construct the box, the. sections G and Gr are turned upward and inward to a vertical position, the section B and D turned upward i against the ends of the former, and the small 4sections F and H thus folded inward against and pasted upon the outer sides of said sections G and G. The section or iiap A is now folded inward upon the upper edge of the box, the cover E folded down over said iiap, and box, and the flaps I and I turned downward against the supplemental sides F and H. When the box is filled with screws, the flap A holds the latter in position without in any manner interfering with their removal or replacement, while, by means of the side flaps I and I, the cover, when closed downward, is held in place, and rendered strong anddurable.
I am aware that the blank shown is not of itself new, and, therefore, do not claim the same, broadly.
Having thus fully ser forth the nature and sPENcEE M. CLARK.
