IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-BOSOM SUPPORTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 156,155, dated October 20, 1874; application filed March 23, 1874.

Be it known that I, GEORGE E. HALL, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Shirt-Bosom Supporter, of which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is an elevation. Fig. 2 is a section at as. Fig. 3 is a section of part at y.

Gentlemen are greatly annoyed by the wrinkling of their shirt-bosoms; and this portion of dress is often unpresentable simply because wrinkled, and not because soiled. The object of my inx'ention is to obviate the difficulty mentioned; and this I accomplish by the use of a supporter, which can be conveniently made from fine wire cloth, covered with common cotton cloth or flannel.

In the drawings, A represents a piece of fine wire cloth, the lower end of which is rolled over, as shown at b, Fig. 3. B is a piece of cotton cloth or other suitable covering for the front, and D a similar covering for the back side. A portion of the covering is cut away in Fig. 1 to show the wire cloth. The upper end of the wire cloth is at or near the dotted line a; and that part of the article above a consists of cloth alone, and is perfectly flexible. The wire cloth may be bent out the binding.

In use, the supporter is to be placed beneath the shirt-bosom, and can be buttoned at the upper end onto the inner portion of the collarstud, or onto a button provided for the purpose. It will be well to turn the shirt or b0- som under the lower end of the supporter.

This article is efficient in' preventing the wrinkling of the shirt-bosom, and also serves the purpose of a chest-protector.

I am aware that bosom-supporters have been before used formed of oblong or skeleton frames; and I do not, therefore, broadly claim such device.

The advantage presented by my invention is that, as the entire support is formed of wire cloth or gauze, the bosom has a support. its entire surface, and cannot be broken, as where only a frame is used to support particular portions of the bosom.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

As a newarticle of manufacture, the shirtbosom support herein described, consisting of wire cloth, interlining A, and back and front coverings B D, all constructed and combined as described, for the purpose specified.
