Be it known that l, GEORGE VVALrnRs, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Ardenode, in the Province of Alberta, Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and lmprovedContainer, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.

The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in containers, and it pertains more particularly to a device especially adapted for containing tubes of material, such, for example, as tooth paste, shaving cream, cosmetics, and the like.

Containers such as tubes of the character above mentioned, if laid down with their cap removed, have a tendency especially in warm weather, to cause the material contained therein to exude therefrom, and it is one of the objects of the invention to provide a device which will support the tube in a vertical position, thus preventing the exudation of the material contained therein.

It is a further object of the invention to construct the device in such a manner that the material contained within the tube may be forced therefrom without removing the tube from its container.

It is a further object of the invention to construct the container in such a manner that engagement of the closing cap for the container serves to maintain the tube in position therewithin.

It is a further object of the invention to construct'the container in such a manner that the tube is retained at all times in proper position therein.

With the above and other objects in view, 40 reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the container of the present invention;

Referring now more particularly to the several views of the drawing, it will be apparent that the device comprises a base 10 Serial No. 631,410.

from which projects vertically an open sided tubular member 1 1. This open tubular member 11 has a curved top wall 12, which in turn is provided with an opening 13 adapted to receive the neck of a tube, shown in dotted lines. The base 10 is hollow and is closed by means of a screw cap lll. The reference character 15 designates a shield in the form of an open-ended tubular member adapted to fit over the tube when the same is supported in the open tubular member 11. rlhis shield has a curved end 16 to give a neater appearance thereto.

The member 11 may be constructed from a circular blank, or may be formed by bending a long blank upon itself. This also is true of the cover member 15. ln order to releasably secure the cover member 15 in place, the base is provided with a groove, or the like, 17, and adapted to engage in said groove 17, there is a projection 18 formed on the cover member 15 so that when the cover member 15 is turned relative to the member 11, the projection 18 enters the groove 17 and securely locks the two members together.

From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides means for carrying and supporting and covering a tube of the type employed for containing tooth-paste, shaving cream, cosmeticaand the like, and that by the use of such a device as shown in the present invention, the tube always presents a neat appearance, and, at the same time, operation of the tube is had in substantially the same manner as in ordinary use after the protecting cover is removed.

What is claimed is:

1. A tube holding device comprising a holding member having a tube-neck-receiving opening in one end and oppositely disposed slots extending longitudinally thereof, a iared portion formed on the opposite end, a removable cap associated with said flared portion and forming a closure therefor; a cover member adapted to receive the holder member, and means for effecting the releasable connection ofthe cover member to the holder member.

2. A tube-holding device comprising a substantially cylindrical member having ,a
