Description

7 Jan. 15, 1957 J. SHEFFLER SOAP POWDER DISPENSER ATTACHMENT Filed Sept. 18, 1953 INVENTOR. 5 .Sf/f/FME United States Patent Q SOAP POWDER DISPENSER ATTACHMENT James Shefiier, Wilkinsburg, Pa.
Application September 18, 1953, Serial No. 380,958
2 Claims. (Cl. 222-80) This invention relates to a dispenser, and while primarily designed and intended for dispensing soap powder or soap flakes, it will be obvious that the device may be employed for dispensing any other granular materials and the like wherein it is found to be applicable.
Important objects and advantages of the invention are to provide a dispenser of the character described, which may be readily and conveniently attached to and removed from the conventional type of soap powder container, and which will minimize spillage of the soap powder from the container and allow a regular and steady flow of the soap powder from the container during the dispensing operations, and thus eliminate waste attending the dispensing of the soap powder from its container in the usual manner.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts herein specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, but it is to be understood that changes in the form, proportions and details of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure l is a side elevational view of a dispenser, constructed in accordance with the invention, and illustrating its connection with a container for soap powder.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a front elevational View of the device in the open position.
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the dispenser.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the device with parts thereof shown in the unformed positions.
The improved dispenser is designed for attachment to a conventional type of soap powder box 1. The box is constructed of fairly stiff cardboard, and is provided with an opening flap 2 along an easy tear-line at the upper end of one side wall of the box to allow the removal of the soap powder from the box when the opening flap is severed along the easy-tear line.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the dispenser comprises an oblong, rectangularly-shaped casing 3, which conforms to the contour of the box corner provided with the opening flap 2, and which is designed to overlap said box corner and to be removably attached to the latter.
The casing 3 is preferably constructed of sheet metal, and consists of a front wall 4, a pair of side walls, 5 and 6, and a top comprising an inner top section 7 and an outer top section 8. The outer top section flatly overlaps the inner top section, and is permanently secured to the latter by means of a pair of spaced clips 9, or in any other suitable manner.
The upper end of the front wall 4 is provided with a recess 10, which is substantially semi-circular, and which registers with the opening in the side wall of the box 1 when the device is attached to the latter and when the opening flap 2 is severed along the easy tear-line in the usual manner.
The top section 8 carries a clamp member 11, which latter is attached at the front of the former and projects rearwardly beneath the inner top section 7. The function of the clamp member is to clamp the opening flap 2 in the open position against the under face of the box top, and further to aid in maintaining the device in position on the corner of the box 1. The clamp member is preferably formed with a downwardly curved free end to facilitate the engagement of the clamp member with the opening flap 2.
A vertically sliding door 12 is positioned flatly against the outer face of the front wall 4, and is maintained in frictional engagement against the latter by a pair of elongated guides 13, which are stamped from the front wall 4 and which overlap respective side edge margins of the door. The upward adjustment of the door in the guides will close the recess 10 in the front wall 4 when the device is not in use. The upper end of the door is provided with a recess 14 to provide clearance for the clamp member 11 and thus allow the full closure of the recess 10 by the door.
The lower end of the door is provided with a grasping lug 15 to facilitate the opening and closing adjustments of the door on the front wall 4. A pair of stop elements 16 are carried by the front wall 4 to limit the opening movement of the door and to prevent the removal of the latter, from the front wall 4.
Each of the casing side walls 5 and 6 is formed with an elongated vertically extending slit 17, which is open at its lower end to provide a relatively narrow finger 18 at the rear of said side walls. The lower free ends of the fingers are turned inwardly toward each other and are shaped to form short sharp prongs 19. The fingers 18 are sufficiently resilient to allow the prongs to pierce respective front and rear walls of the box 1 to thereby secure the attachment of the dispenser to the box in conjunction with the holding action afforded by the clamping member 11.
It will be apparent that when the opening flap 2 is held in the open position the contents of the box may be dispensed in a regular controlled flow without waste, and that when the door 12 is in the closed position the contents of the box cannot spill from the box when the latter topples over and the like.
The present invention provides a most eflicient device of its kind, which may be economically constructed and successfully employed for the purposes and in the manner herein set forth.
What I claim is:
1. A dispenser for granular material from a box provided with an opening flap, comprising, in combination, a casing mounted on a corner of the box and being formed with a recess registering with the opening flap, a door frictionally mounted on said casing and being vertically adjustable to open and to cover said recess, means carried by said casing for limiting the adjusting movement of said door on said casing, a clamping member carried by said casing for holding the opening flap in the open position, and a pair of prongs carried by said casing and piercing the box for maintaining said casing in position on the box.
2. A dispenser for granular material from a box having an opening flap at the upper end of a side wall thereof, comprising, in combination, a casing mounted on a corner of the box and including a top and a front wall and a pair of side walls, said front wall provided with an opening registering with the opening flap, a door fric- Patented Jan. 15, 1957'.
