COIBINATION COLLAPSIBLE TUBE HOLDER AND DS ENSER Filed July 18, 1938 INVENTOR P1IG M/c/me/A. %(04 WM agaj; ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 3, 1939 PATENT OFFICE COMBINATION COLLAPSIBLE TUBE HOLDER AND DISPENSER Michael A. Vacca, Bradford, R. I.
Application July 18, 1938, Serial No. 219391 1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in com bination collapsibe tube holders and disp nsers.
Objects oi' my invention are to provide a novel type of collapsible tube holder which may be permanently Secured to a vertical surface adjacent the place where the collapsible tube is to be used, which is adapted for use particularly in dispensing plastic substances for personal use from said dispenser. such as shaving cream, tooth paste, etc., constructed with a minimum number of parts easy to operate, said collapsible tube being easily replaceable as the contents are used up, which employs a s'pout Construction employing a closure for the spout to keep the spout at all times closed when not in use to positively prevent caking of the plastic substance dispensed within the spout and which is so constructed so as to permit the use of the collapsible tube cap as the cap for the spout if desired.
These and such other objects of my invention as may hereinafter appear will be best understood from a. description of the accompanying drawing which' 'llustrates various embodiments thereof.
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment o.- combnation collapsible tube holder and dispenser constructed in accordance with my invention, a portion therecf being shown in section.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 attached to a vertical surface.
Fig. 3 is'a plan View of said embodiment.
Fig. 4 is a front elevation of the lower portion of an alternative embodiment of :my invention employing a difierent type of cap for the dispensing spout.
Fig. 5 is a side elevaticn of the parts of the embodiment of -my invention shown in Fig. 4.
In thedrawing, wherein like characters of reference generally indicate like parts throughout, o generally indicates a combination collapsible tube holder and dispenser constructed in accordance with my invention. said device includes a holding member l4 or the collapsible tube base, said holding member having a spout !6 depending therefrom and means !8 to detachably secure said holding member to a vertical surface. In the embodiment shown, said ho1ding member !4 comprises a container having side walls 20 having diametrically opposite siitted portions 22 therein and a base 24 having a spout IE depending substantially centrally therefrom The base 24 comprises a disc as shown having side Walls 26 projecting upwardly for a distance therefrom and the side wall portion 20 of said container comprises a tube fitting within walis of said disc and have the diametrically opposite slitted portions 22 therein. The means !8 for detachably securing said holding member to a vertical surface may comprise the arm 28 terminating in a plate 30 having holes 32 there- 5 in so that said plate may be detachably Secured to a vertically extending surface 34 by means of the screws 36. The .spout IS is provided with an internally threaded upper end 38 of a size to detachably receive the externally threaded neck 40 of a collapsible tube so that the tube 42, when said neck is secured within said threaded portion, may extend vertically upwardly within said container l4. V I
A cap 44 is provided !or the dispensing tip 42 of said spout IS. In the preferred embodiment shown, for this purpose the dispensing tip is of a size and is externally threaded as at 46 to receive the cap 44 removed from the collapsble tube thereon. p 20 As means for extracting the plastic material from the collapsible tube by collapsing the collapsible tube 40 within said container, I provide a rod 48 extending horizontally through said diametrcally opposite slotted portions 22 having 5 an axially extended slot 50 therein for threading the collapsible endz of the collapsible tube therein. Means are provided exterior of said contaner for evenly rotating'said rod 50 to coliapse said collapsible tube to dispense the contents thereof through said spout !6, winding the collapsed body of the collapsible tube around said rod. r
In my preferred embodiment, said means comprise the knurled nuts 54 mounted on the ends of said rod 50 exterior of said container. It is apparent, however, that any other type of means operable from without the ccntainer to Collapse the contents thereof may be empiyed or that if desired such`means and the side walis 29 of O said container may be dispensed with and the tubes permanently retained in position in and extending vertically upwardly from said base !4 may be collapsed by hand.
As stated, a main feature of my mvention is 4 the provision of a cap 44 for the end oi' the spout (6, which may comprise the usual cap 44 removed from the collapsible tube, which will positively prevent the access of air to within the spout [6 to positively prevent caking of the plastic material being dispenscd within said spent.
I have shown in Figs. and 5 an alternative type of friction cover 44* icr the tip of said spotit it which comprises a tubuar member having a closed end adapted to frictionaly fit over the 55 end of the spout !6. whether a cap u of the nternally threaded type or 9. cap H' of the frction type be employed, I may, if desired, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 provide eord means 56 such as a chain shown permanently securing said cover M' to said holding member or container.
It is apparent, therefore that I have provided an improved combination collapsble tube holder and dispenser of a simple number of easily manufactured and easily operable pari-,s with the advantages explained above.
It is understood that my inventlon is not limited to the specific embodiments shown and that various deviations may be made therefrom without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a combination collapsible tube holder and dspenser, a fiat supporting base having an upstanding continuous lip at the outer edge the'eot and having a spout depending substantialy centrally therefrom, said spout having an intemaly threaded upper end of a size to detachably ?re ceive the externally tireaded neck of a collepsihle tube so that said tube may extend upwa'ds, and a dispensing tip, externally threaded and of e, size to receive the" cap removed from the coilapsible tube, and a oasing having the lower end of the contour and slightiy less than the size of said lip resting on said support and surrounded by said lip, said casing having diametricaiy opposite slotted portions, and means to rigidly se cure said supporting base to a. vertical surface, a. rod extending horizontally through said cho metric slots having an extended slot for threading the collaps'ble end of a collapsibe tube thei-e in and means exterior of said casing for eveniy rotat'ng said rod to collapse said collapslble tube to dispense the contents thereot through said spout.
