Description

D. SMALL May 16, 1950 COMBINED COLLAPSIBLE TUBE HOLDER AND DISPENSER Filed May 17, 1946 www Patented May 16, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COMBINED COLLAPSIBLE TUBE HOLDER AND DISPENSER 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in paste dispensing devices, and more particularly to a device of this character adapted for dispensing tooth paste, shaving cream, and similar paste products from a collapsible tube.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a container for a tube of paste adapted for attaching to a wall or other suitable supporting structure, the threaded neck of the tube being connected to a discharge spout at the lower end of the container and connecting the rear end of the tube to a slotted key for winding the tube thereon in `a manner to extrude the paste from the spout onto a tooth brush or other type `of brush in accordance with the character of the paste being dispensedi A further object of the present invention is to provide a device of this character including a dispensing spout shaped to discharge the paste forwardly and in ribbon form onto the brush.
A still further object is to provide a container for the tube of paste and including a unitary front and top wall removably attached to the container to facilitate -removal of the empty tube for replacing with a full tube.
Another object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the saine is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the `accompanying drawing forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view with parts broken away and shown in section.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially on a line `3`3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view through the spout taken substantially on a line 4--4 of Figure 1.
Referring now to the -drawing in detail, where for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral `5 designates an attaching plate adapted for attaching to the side of a wall or other suitable supporting structure, Vthe attaching plate being secured in position in any conventional manner.
'I'lie attaching plate includes a forwardly projecting relatively wide vertical rib 6 having its upper end formed with a liange I projecting upwardly in spaced relation fromv the wall or other supporting structure, as indicated in Figure 2V of the drawing.
The lower end of the attaching'plate isl formed with a forwardly projecting shelf 8 having a threaded opening `9 therein for receiving the threaded neck I0 of a paste tube I I, the tube being supported inr an upstanding position on the shelf.
The bottom of the shelf is formedwith'a forwardly inclined spout I2 includinga passage I3 communicating with the opening 9, the passage terminating in a flat tapering discharge mouth I4 at the front lower portion of the spout. The lips of the mouth I4 are arranged in such a manner as to spread the paste in ribbon or other form when discharged from the mouth of the spout, and the spout I2 is constructed of material having sufficient resiliency as to be of a self-opening and self-closing type, thus preventing the paste from becoming exposed when not in use.
A cover designated generally at I5 is provided for the tube of paste -I I, the cover including side Walls IB, a front wall I'I, and a top Wall |=8. The edges I.of the side w-alls I6 are placed outwardly at the sides of the rib 6 and the under side of the top wall I8 is formed with a transverse channel I9 adapted to receive the upwardly projecting flange I of the attaching plate, whereby to retain the cover in position over the tube of paste and secured to the attaching plate.
The rib 6 of the attaching plate is formed with a vertically extending groove 20 yand the front Wall Il of the cover is formed with a vertically extending slot 2| through which a winding key 22 is inserted Iwith its inner end adapted to travel in the groove 20. The key 22 is formed with a longitudinally extending slot 23 adapted to receive the upper end of the paste tube I I for winding the tube thereon and to compress the contents rof the tube to extrude the same from the spout I'2. The key 22 is provided at its outer end with a knurled manipulating knob 24, and as the contents lof the tube are discharged, the empty upper portion of the tube will be Wound on the key 22 while the key travels `downwardly in the groove 20 and the slot 2 I.
The side edges of the front wall I1 are formed with outwardly projecting iianges 25 and the side walls I6, adjacent their upper ends, are formed with spaced-apart lugs 26 adapted. for engagement by the brush head 2l of a tooth brush to support the brush against the sides of the container with the handles 28 of the brush extended embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent,
that various changes in construction may be made without departing fronathe'spiritL-:oitlee invention as herein described, and the scope onf the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what' is claimed is:
A collapsible tube holder and dispenser, com-.- prising a substantially flat elongated mounting' plate arranged substantially vertically and secure'di te` asupport; said vm'c'untiifig plate being provided? upon its' forwardl'tace"withl-afwide; sub1 stantially thin elongated flatA ri'bf which extends' for substantially the entire length of the mountingf plate, the. rib@ beingi provided substantially at its transverse y center! W-ilrlr-a.y narrow elongated' sub'stanitally"` vertically-` extendinggroove extend'- ingl for V substantiayllyFthel entireleng-th' offV the-rib' i and? mounting-; plate;- there mounting f plate bein2gprovided at its top with a short upstanding flange' which projects above the top of the mounting plate and is `di'sp'es'edforwardly. of Y the rear i ifa-'ceY or the mounting plate; the mountingplate-being f providedlat its `botton'r end Iwith an- -integral -fo'iu wardly projecting substantially horizontal shelfA ei'r-ter'rsienv havinga central' vertical screwV threaded opening formed-1therein, sairl screws threaded openingbeing spaced' laterally forward` ly of th'ef ribtof` the mountingplate, the screwthreaded opening' receiving the vscrew'-th'rearzledL neck of a collapsible tube disposed inverted and substantially vertically upon the substantially horizontal extension and extending upwardly therefrom and forwardly of and adjacent to the rib of the mounting plate, a cover detachably mounted upon the mounting plate and including a substantially flat forward side spaced from the mounting.` plate. and provided. withna.V central verti'cali'slot disposedin lateralalignmentwith the groove of the rib, the slot extending for substantially the entire length of the cover and mounting plate, the cover including integral substantially-vertical sides: having their inner free edges engaging upon opposite sides of the rib, the cover including an vintegral iiat top provided in its bottom face 'with a groove receiving the upstanding fla-nge =of. the-'mounting plate therein, the inner side .and` bottom of the cover being open, and a winding key extending transversely through the slot of the cover and .having its inner endengaginglwitliinthegro'ovel of the rib' and 'connected with tlrreffreex en'df'of thecollapsible tubebetweenVA themoenting plate andiorwa-rd side or the'- cover and'operable for winding upjth'e tube to' dispense its contents.v
