SHADE HOLDER.
Application filed March 16, 1924. Serial No. 698,294.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE REMINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tiflin, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a shade holder and has for its principal object to provide a device for adjustably supporting a shade bracket that is a device wherein the shade bracket may be moved longitudinally thereof for the purpose of accommodating different sized window shades.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a holder of this nature with means for engaging a lace curtain pole.
A still further object of the invention is to generally improve upon shade holders of this nature by providing a device possessed of a very simple and efficientconstruction, one which is reliable, inexpensive to manufacture, durable, strong, attractive in appearance, and adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
' With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in cer tain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the shade holder embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a plan view showing the blank from which the body of the holder is formed,
Figures 3 and 4: are vertical transverse sections taken substantially on the lines 33 and 4-4 respectively of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the holder indicated generally by the letter A is constructed from a body 1 the blank of which is shown in Figure 2. The body 1 is substantially rectangular shaped and is provided with an upwardly extending flange 2 along its bottom edge and a depending flange 3 along its upper edge. An apertured ear 3 extends perpendicularly from one end of thebody 1 while a similar ear 4 extends parallel thereto from an intermediate portion of the body. A bar 5 has its ends positioned in the apertures of the ears 3 and 4so as to be rotatable therein. This bar is provided with a series of spaced teeth 6 normally positioned as shown in Figure 1. The shade bracket indicated generally at- B includes a base plate 7 from which extends an arm 8 provided in its end with an opening or slot 9 for receiving the end of a shade roller. The arm 8 is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 10 in which is received the bar 5. It will thus be seen that the ends of the base plate 7 are slidably received in the trackways formed by the flanges 2 and 3 so as to be movable longitudinally on the base 1. In order to move this bracket the bar 5 must be rotated so as to place its teeth 6 in alinement with the slot 10 of the arm 8 at which time the bracket D may be readily moved to a proper adjusted position. When properly adjusted the bar 5 is rotated so that its teeth 6 take a vertical position as shown in Figure 1 thus locking the bracket in its adjusted position.
In the present embodiment of the invention the bottom flange 2 extends the entire distance of the lower edge of the body while the upper flange 3 only extends a partial dis- .tance of the upper edge of the body. A strip 13 attached to one end of the body is bent over upon the body in order that a plate 14 may be received with its lower edge within the trackway formed by the flange 2 and its upper end between the body and the strip 13. A stud 15 projects from the plate 14 and the end of a curtain rod 16 may be placed thereover. This plate 14 is readily removable since it may be lifted so that its bottom edge disengages the flange 2 and then pulled outwardly to the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 3. After this the plate may be moved downwardly so as to disengage the strip 13. The plate 14 is not movable longitudinally of the body being positioned between the ear 18 provided on the end of the body and the ear 4 previously mentioned. The ear 18 is preferably provided with a slot or opening for the reception of the end of a curtain roller if the holders are desired for supporting two curtains as is often desirable where a curtain of light shade is used adjacent the window and a curtain of a darker shade behind the same.
From the above description it is thought that a clear understanding of my invention will be had without a more detailed description thereof. It is desired, however,to point out the body of the device may be stamped from sheet metal'and bent to provide the to be understood that numerous changes in the details of construction, in the materials, in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its'adrant-ages. y 7 V flaring thusdescribed my invention, What I claim as new is; 1. A holder ofthe class described including a body provided with an upwardly turned bottom flange and a downwardly turned upper flange, a curtain bracket including a plate and an arm, said arm pro vided with a slot, the ends of said plate being slidable in i the Ways formed by the flanges on the body, a rod rotatably mounted l the invention 'with a certain degree o't particularity, t is on the'body and adapted to extend through i the slot of the arm of the bracket, and teeth extending irom the rod and adapted to be brought in registry with the slot of the arm in Order that the bracket may be moved longitudinally of the body or to be disposed out of alinement therewith for holding the bracket in a fixed adjusted position.
2; A shade bracket comprising a plate, a bracketelement slidably associated Withvthe plate and provided with a horizontally disposed slot, a bar jonrnaled on the plate and extending longitudinally of the same, a plurality of spaced fingers carried by the bar and normally disposed in a vertical position with two adjacent" lingers normally strad dling the bracket toretain the latter in adjusted position, the bar being adapted to be rotated to a position to disposethe fingers in horizontal alignment with the slot when it'is desired to adjust the bracket longitudinally. v a
In testimony whereof I afiiX my'signature.
