ADJUSTABLE CAP.

To all whom it may concern." Be it known that lsrnou l. TRAU, citizen of the United Statesyresiding at Louisville, in the county of Jeerson and State to an improvement over the prior inventionofY a cap for whichapplication for Letters Patent was made January 18, 1922 under the Serial Number 530,121 and which has since matured into Letters Patent #1,414,797 dated May 2, 1922. The invention also relates to improvements in the ca shown in Reissue Patent gti-15,821.5, dated April `8, 1924. p

It has been found, in the practical construction of a cap in the manner shown 1n such prior invention, that certain objections exist which are due to the particular way in which the upwardly extending slits are formed in the lower edge.

One important object of the invention is to improve this manner of forming the slits so as to overcome these existing objections.

lt has also been found that the manner of lining thel cap is not altogether satisfactory.

A second important object of the invention is, therefore, to improve the manner of lining the cap, especially at the slitted portions.

lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in general of certain novel details' of construction and combinations of` parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and specifically claimed.

In the form here shown the body 10 of the cap is of the usual form and is provided with side seams 11 put to the rear of the visor 12. In frontof the side seams the bottom edge of the cap extends considerably below the bottom edge to the rear of said seams so that the lower front portion of said cap body is offset downwardly from the lower rear portion. The lower ends of the side seam stitohings terminate considerably above the bottom edge of the cap body to provide openings 13. c

The top edge of the back portion 14 of a cap band is secured by stitching 15 to the lower edge of the rear body portion of the cap and this band has forwardly extending ends 16 which pass over the visor and are adjustably connected in front of the body by the snap button arrangement 17 used in the prior device above lreferred to and clearly described and disclosed therein. Owing to the fact that the bottom edge of the front portion of the cap is below the edge towhich the band is attached and that the visor is attached to the said-front portion the band passes forward smoothly and without wrinkles. Moreover the band coversk the lower parts of the side openings or slits so that these are thus rendered invisible. It is to be noted that it is not essential that the openings be made at the lower ends of the side seams butthis is a convenient place .for the same and tends to economy of manufacture.

Within the cap is a lining 18 the lower back edge of which is secured to the lower edge of the back portion of the band by stit hing 19. At the slits or openings the lower part of this lining extends across said slits' to cover or close the same on the inside and it is sewed to the dependlng forward edges of the openings by stitching 2t), being Cil also stitched to the bottoni edge of the front portion of the oep body as at 2l.
