UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. TRAUTE, OF MONMOU'IH BEACI-I, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR T0 'lI-IE DIAMONI) MATCH COMPAN'Y, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION O! ILLINOIS.
SMOKERS OUTFIT.
Applieation filed September 18, 1924. Serial No. 738,353.
To all whom ii may concewn:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. TRAU'IE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of i\onmouth Beach, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have in" vented certain new and usefui Improvements in Smokers Outfits, of Which the foilowing is a specification.
This invention relates to smokers outfits, and it has for its objct to provide a combination ash tray and cigarettte and book match stand of such construction that, in addition to its primary function as a convenient and attractive desk or table utensil for a smoker, it affords an eflcient means whereby cigarettes and metches can be safely packed in segregated quantities for shipment in a single package.
T0 this end my inventon comprses novel features of construction end combinations of parts Which Will be hereinafter described end claimed.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a smokers outfit embodying my invention, the lid of the cigerette holder being shown as swung upward and the match end ash tray es partially withdravvn.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the outfit with match books indicated therein in dotted lines.
Fig. 8 is a fragmentary perspective view of one end of the structure.
Referring to the drawings, 4 designates a case preferably of sheet metal end of appropriate form end size to receive a commercial packet of cigarettes or the contents of such packet. This case comprises a bottom 5, sides 6, ends 7, end a hinged iid or cover 8. On the respective ends 7 are verticaliy-disposed open-mouth pockets, preferably tapering from top to bottom, es shown, to receive end accommodate the usuai commercial book matches with the arger ends or" the books projecting we1l above the top of the case in order to facilitate the ready withdrawal end return or replacement of the books, as occasion may require. Each pocket preferably comprises a piece of sheet metal shaped to provide .an outer side W ELH 9 and two taperirig ends 10, which latter are fixedly secured to the ELdjEL- cent end of the case, es, for example, by interlocking tongues 11 and s1ots 12 in the contiguous ends of the pocket end case respectively. The end of the case, Which s spaced from the outer wall of thepocket,
constitutes a part of the inrier Wall of)the latter. The outer side wail and the ends of each pocket are extendeclbelow the fbot-;
tom'of the case, es at 13, said Wall beiiig" provded at its lower end with an inturned' below and parallel to the adjacient end of, the cigarette case so as to complete the lower portion of the inner wall of thePocketfon match holder.
The tray 16 is a rectangular drawer, pre f erab1y of sheet metal, which, being slidably seated at its ends upon therespective basal leclges 15 of thebook-match pockets or holders, can be readily slid into position beneath or from the bottom of the cigarette case, as desired.
When the tray is positionecl beneath the case the bottom of the latter entirely covers end encloses the top of the tray, which tray is preferably of proper dimensione to contain four books of matches placed therein fiatwise in superposed pairs, as indicated at m in Fig. 2. Hence When the tray is closed the books therein are within a fire-proof container and are separate from the 0011- tents of the case, thus permitting the safe packing end transportation of book-matches end cigarettes in a single package. A pack of cigarettes is indicated at a in Fig. 2.
It is to be noted that the depending portions of the book match pockets or holdore at the respective ends of the structure aiford suitable supporting members for the outfit when it is placed upon a table or the like; that books czm be readily removed from the tray and properly inserted into the pockets or holders or convenient use; that the cigarettes, if they be confined in a packet, can be withdrawn end loosely deposited in the case for individual removal as desired, and that the tray can be slid beyond either side 01 the case to serve from time to time as a convenient ash, waste match and cigarette stub'receptacle and then can be readily closed to confine the eshes,
&c. Consequently my invention afforcls a simple, compact and convenent smokers outfit, the surface of whch may be made quite plain or be more 01 less embellishecl to meet partcular requirenents.
It s to be unclerstoocl that I do not limit my inventon to the specific cletails o," construction herein disclosed, as the devce may be modifiecl within the princple of the invention ancl the scope of the appende l claims.

A smokers outfit comprising 2. rectangular receptaclc f01 cgarettes, exterior match-holding pockets afixecl to che respective encls of saicl receptacle, and an asbreceWer movably supportecl beneath saicl receptacle, saicl pockets composed 'of sheet metal shapecl t0 provicle outwarclly spaced wall portions ancl tapering encls dependng below the body of the receptacle ancl affording guides and supports for the ash recever.
2. A smokers outfit comprising a receptacle f01" cigarettes, match holding pockets 'arrangecl on saicl receptacle ancl extenclng below the lattr, the clepending portons' of the vpockets having tray supports, an l an asl1 recever sliclably mounted 011 sad supports ancl clirectly beneath the receptacle. V

A smokers outfit comprising a receptacle for cigarettes, match holding pockets on the respective encls of the receptacle, each of said pockets comprising a hollow metal structure secured to and de pencling below the acljacent end 01. the receptacle ancl havng a tray support, and a tray sliclably mountcd on the supports and directly be ncath the receptacle.
4. A smokers outfit comprising a receptacle for cigarettes, match holding pockets on the respective end walls of the receptacle, each of said pockets comprisng sheet metal beni: to form an outer wall, end walls, ancl botcom, saicl bottom having a depenclng angnlar portion constituting a tray support, and a tray slidably mountecl on the supports anrl directly beneath the receptacle.
A smokers ontfit comprisng a rectangular receptacle for cigarettes, match holding pockets arrangecl exterorly of the encls 0f said receptacle and including clepencling portions, saicl ends constituting inncr wall portions for the pockets and the clepencling portons of the pockets having tray supporting mcmbers, and a cray sliclably supported on sacl members ancl in close relation to the bottom of the cgarettc rcceptacle.
