WILLIAM G. BANKS, OF COMO, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR TO REBECOA BANKS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN FARM-FENCES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,915, dated October 13. 1874; application filed July 23,1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM (J. BANKs, of Como, in the county of Panola and State of Mississippi, have invented anew and Improved Fence; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side elevation; Fig. 2, a plan View; Fig. 3, a vertical cross-section.
The invention relates to modes of constructing fences for farms and plantations so that they may be cheap and durable.
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents a series of rails, B B the crossed supporting pair of stakes, and O the riders. D is a shortpost, which may be driven into the ground With a maul or other instrument, and supports on each side the ends of a different panel of rails. The latter rest upon blocks E, preferably placed alternately upon opposite sides of the post. The bottom rails are first laid upon blocks E, so that their ends will abut upon different sides of two adjacent posts, D D. On these are again placed blocks upon which a rail rests. This is continued to any desired height, when the stakesB B are applied to support the riders. By means of the short posts D, which may be made of any convenient material, the fence is entirely protected against Winds, floods, or storms.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is A fence, consisting of rails A, stakes 13, posts D, and blocks E, arranged in the manner described.
