SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 412,829, dated October 15, 1889.

Application filed March 6, 1889. Serial No. 302,070. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DWIGHT N. BLAISDELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockbridge, in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fences, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has for its object to construct a fence which shall be simple, durable, and inexpensive, and which may be readily taken down and moved from one place to another.

lVith these ends in view the invention consists, mainly, in the improved construction of the fence posts ory supports, and in the combination therewith of the panel rails or wires constituting the fence, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure I is a perspective view of a portion of a fence embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken at one side of one of the posts or supports. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the fence posts or supports detached.

The same letters refer to the said parts in all the figures.

My improved fence-post is composed of two vertical posts or stakes A A, to the outer sides of which, near their upper ends, are secured a pair of inclined braces B B. These braces may be nailed onto the stakes at their upper ends, and are additionally secured by means of wires C, looped around the said posts and stakes and having their ends twisted, as shown, displacement of the said wires being prevented by means of staples D, driven into the posts and stakes around the said wires, as shown.

E represents a wire, which is looped around one of the braces B,'near its lower end, and attached thereto by means of a staple F. The ends of this wire are twisted between the brace B andthe adjoining postA, around which latter it is looped, as shown, and to which it is secured on opposite sides by means of staples G. The ends of the wire are then twisted between the stakes A A, looped around the next stake, to which they are secured by means of staples II, then again twisted, and iinally looped around and secured by means of staples I to the lower the portion of the wire C which is twisted between the lower ends of the posts A.

K is a wire loop secured to one of the posts A, near the upper end thereof, and encircling the other vertical post. The upper ends of the posts A A may also be connected by means of a cap L, nailed or otherwise suitably secured thereto.

The method of constructing a fence with my improved posts or supports will be under stood by reference to Fig. l of the drawings. The posts being placed at suitable distances apart, the bottom rails of alternate panels are placed upon the wires E between the posts A, and the panels are then built up, as will be seen in the drawings. At places where it may be desired to have a set of removable bars for the passage of stock or vehicles the ends of the rails may be nailed to two adjoining posts, thus enabling the rails of the intermediate panel to be supported loosely lupon the ends of the rails of the two adjoining panels, so that they may be readily removed When desired. The top rails of the panels are to have their ends inserted into the loops K at the tops of the posts', and then brought into a horizontal position, thus twisting the loops and tying the ends of the rails securely therein.

The advantage of my improved fence will be readily appreciated. The construction is simple and inexpensive, and the rails may be easily removed in case it shall be desired to move the fence from one place to another. The fence is firmly braced, so that it will not be easily upset by stock or in case of high wind, and it will be particularly observed that the bottom rails of each panel are supported above the ground, so as not to be affected by moisture.
