Description
Oct. 20, 1925. 1,558,365
- c, c. JENSEN I MOLD Filed July 7. 1923 2 Sheets-Sheet l Cd/Z R Patented Oct. 20, 1925 PATENT OFFICE.
CARL C. JENSEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MOLD.
Application filed July 7,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL C. JnNsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Molds, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a mold and has for its primary object the construction of a mold that is capable of molding the upper or mouth section of the concrete sewer illustrated in Letters Patent 1,311,819.
An object of the invention is the construction and arrangement of parts whereby quick delivery may be accomplished.
Another object of the invention is the novel manner of associating the part-s so that the rods may be permanently set in the concrete.
With these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the mold.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Fig. 3 is an end elevation.
Fig. 4: is a vertical sectional view.
Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4:.
Figure 6 is a detailed transverse section of the molded articles.
Again referring to the drawing illustrating one of the many constructions of my invention the numeral 1 designates the box constructed to have an opening 2 in the front wall 3 and an opening 4 in the top. This box is shaped to allow quick, easy delivery of the article cast or molded and for the particular use illustrated the box is provided with a flange 5 for the purpose hereinafter described. The core 6 consists of the upper section 7 movable through the opening 4, and the lower section 8 movable through the opening 2. The section 7 is provided with projections 9 engaging the lower section 8 for holding the two sections in proper position one upon the other. The front wall 10 of the upper section is provided with a series of slots 11 for allowing insertion therethrough of the rods 12 that have their lower end portions 13 seated within the recesses 14: of the upper and 1923. lower sections which register with one another. same are provided with an olfset 15 resting upon the flange 5. It will be noted the ends of the rods project a distance great enough into material receiving space 16 to be properly seated in the concrete and as the sections separate in opposite directions it will be seen that the fixed position of these rods in. the concrete will not be disturbed. Clamps 17 and 18 are provided for holding the core sections in place and as is the usual practice, these are of quick, detachable construction.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I provide a mold which is capable of forming the sewer in the construction illustrated in the aforementioned patent and in such a way that the rods may be permanently seated in the concrete during the molding operation.
It is, of course to be understood that the various parts may be given various other shapes and associated in other relations and for molding various articles, therefore, I do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forthv in the claims hereunto appended.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
1. A mold comprising a box having an open front and an open top, a core consisting of two sections, one moving through the open front of the box and the other through the open top of the box, rods adapted to be clamped between the sections with the ends arranged to be embedded in the casting.
2. A mold comprising a box having an open front and an open top, a core consisting of two sections, one moving through the open front of the box and the other through the open top of the box, rods adapted to be clamped between the sections with the ends arranged to be embedded in the casting, clamp means on the top of the box for holding one section in place and clamp on the front of the box for holding the other core section in place and in proper position with relation to the other section.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CARL C. JENSEN.
To properly position the rods
