SPECIFICATION forming part of LettersPatent No. 656,022, dated August 14, 1900. Application filed December 28, 1899. flerial No. 741,809. (No model- To ctZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES R. JONES, of Johnstown, in the county of Oambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement inMolders Flasks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the ac companying drawings, whiehform a part of this specification.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in m'olders flasks, and is designed to provide means whereby a single flask or flask-section may be used for casting two or more objects side by side and for supporting the sand in the flask in such a manner that the latter can be moved from place to place without. injuring the molds therein.

vVith these objects in view the invention consistsin a division-piece secured longitudi nally within the flask-section and having means for supporting the sand upon each side of it; also, in means carried by said division piece and by the lateral walls of the flasksection for carrying gaggers, which form an additional support for the sand.

The invention also consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereiuafterdescribed, and pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a plan view of a flask-section provided with my invention. Figs. 2, 3, and tare sections taken, respectively, on the lines 2 2, 3 3, and 4 4 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the flask-section,showin g the arrangement of the molds therein.

The letter A designates an ordinary flask cope or cope-section, the invention being applicable to both two and three part flasks.

B designates a division-piece which extends longitudinally through the center of the cope, being secured to the end walls thereof by means of flanges b and bolts 17, seated in said flanges and the said walls. Said piece consists of an endwise-disposed plate or bar having laterally-projecting flanges b at its base, provided each with upwardly-projecting pins Z1 and with stiffening-ribs b. Secured to the inner face of each side wall of the cope is a longitudinal edgewise-disposed plate 0, whose upper portion consists of a series of fingers or projections c. For convenience these plates may, as shown, be made in short sections; but this is immaterial to my invention.

The piece B divides the cope into two moldchambers, and a mold may be formed upon each side thereof, as shown in Fig. .5, sand supporting gaggers I-I being hung upon the upwardly-projecting pins 6 and upon the flugers c in the manner shown in Fig. 4. In narrow flasks or where the body of sand to be supported is not large the side plates 0 might be omitted, the flanges b on the divisionpiece, with or without gaggers hung thereto, being depended upon to carry the sand.

The letter S in Fig. 5 designates mold-cavities upon opposite sides of the central division-piece B and formed in the sand S.

By means of my invention, which dispenses with the use of the cross-bars usually employed to hang the gaggers from, I am able to provide a flask in which two molds may be made with but little more work than has heretofore been required to make a single mold. In fact, taking into account the time required in the usual practice to properly fit and secure the gagger-bars around the pattern the actual cost in time and labor of making the two molds does not exceed that of making a single mold. The invention also reduces very largely the number of flasks required, as well as the amount of floor and storage space.

The invention is especially valuable in casting narrow elongated pieces, such as switch-pieces and switch-mates, but is also useful in casting many other articles.

I do not wish to limit myself to the particular construction and arrangement which I have shown and described, as changes may 'be made in the details thereof withoutdeparting from the spirit and scope of my invention as set-forth in the following claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A molders flask-section, having a longitudinally-extending division-piece therein provided with flanges at its base, and supports for gaggers carried by the said flanges.

2. A molders flask-section having a longitudinally-extending division piece therein; and upwardly-extending supports for carrying gaggers rising from the base of said piece at the sides thereof.

3. A inolders flask-section having a longitudinally-extending division-piece therein, formed with lateral flanges at its base, and upwardly-extending pins or projections on said flanges adapted to carry gaggers, substantially as described.

4. A molders flask-section having a longitudinally-extending division-piece therein provided with upwardly-extending pins or projections at its sides, and a series of projections secured to the inner walls of the sides of said section, substantially as described.

5. A molders flask-section, having a longitudinally-extending division-piece therein provided with lateral base-flanges, and with laterally-arranged pins or projections rising from said base-flanges, said section also having a series of projections secured to each of its side walls, substantially as described.

6. A molders flask, having secured to its side walls a gagger plate or carrier formed with a series of upward projections or fingers substantially as described.

7. A molders flask having a longitudinally-extending division-plate formed with lateral sand-supporting flan ges,a series of gagger-supports carried by each of said flanges, and plates secured to the inner longitudinal walls of the flask, and having each a series of gagger-supports at their upper edges, substantially as described.
