UllIrIED STATES PATENT @FFME OYRUS S. WERT, OF KENDALLVILLE, INDIANA.
PosT-MOL'D.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, Crans S. WERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kendallville, in the county of Noble and State of Indiana, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in Post-i`violdsg and I do declare the following'to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as willenable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in` sectional molds for the manufacture of concrete or other plastic posts, and has for its object to provide a mold of this type whereby a plurality of posts may be made at a single operation, and whereby' the posts may be made in varying lengths.
With these and other object-s in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a mold constructed in accord- 'ance with the invention, Fig. 2 is an end view. thereof, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section taken on the line 3 3 of 'liig 1, and Fig. 4- is a transverse section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. l.
In the embodiment illustrated the mold comprises two correspondingr hinged mold members l and 2 respectively, the hinged ends ol' which are ol' the desired contour to make the tops ol' the posts of the desired form. The free ends of the mold `members are held in connected relation during the molding operation by a hinged end wall 3, hinged to the extreme free end of one of the mold members and provided at its free end with a pair of centrally apertured, vertically spaced pin receiving lugs 4, adapted to position at opposite ends ol' an upright tubular,
extension 5, produced at the free ond of the other hinged section. A coupling pin G, as shown is inserted through the apertures of the lugs 4, and the tubular extension to hold the free endol' the end wall 2 in position, as willbe obvious.
'Rho mold is divided into two corresponding compartments 7, b v means ot' a central Vertical partition made from a piece of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed July 13, 1908.
Patented Jain. ee, 190e.
Serial No. 443,183.
`Hat metal one end of which is inserted in a corresponding` groove 9 formed in the inner surface and at the hinged end of the mold member l. rI'he opposite end of said partition is held in the proper position by a keeper plate 10, having a central longitudinal slot 1l, to receive the partition, the keeper plate being held in position by inserting the opposite side edges thereof in either of two series of vertical longitudinally grooves 12, formed in the inner faces and near the free ends of the mold members. By this construction it will be observed that the keeper plate may be placed in different positions or adjustments to make osts of different lengths. It is also to be o served that if desired the partition 8 and keeper plate 10 may be dispensed with in the manufacture of but one post with the mold.
The operation of this device vwill be obvious. The vmold is placed upon any suitable at surface vn'th the partition and keeper plate in position and with the free ends of the mold members in Aconnected relation, as shown in Fig. 1. The material is then placed upon opposite sides of the partition to form the'posts after which the keeper pin is removed and the mold members swung apart.
From the foregoing description, taken 1n connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood Without requiring a more extended ex lanation.
Various changes in the fbrm, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire' to secure by Letters Patent is:
' A mold ofthe type described comprising a pair of hinged mold sections, one having a vertical groove in its inner face at its'hinged end and each of the sections near its free or opposite end provided with series of vertical longitudinally spaced grooves, an end wall hinged to the free end of one of the mold sections, means for coupling the free end of said wall with the other section, a removable partition arranged between and extending ongitudinally of the mold sections with one end spaced fitting in said first mentioned groove, and e i 1n testimony Whereol have hereunto eet keeper plate having e Central longitudinal g my lin-ncl in presence of two Subscribing Witslot to receive and hold the other end of the Tresses.
partition in position, the edges of the keeper l CYRUS S. 'Wlil' e' plete tting in either pair of oppositely cliswvvitnessesz posed grooves near the free ends ol' the mold. DANLEL ROUSH,
