MOLD FOR PLASTIC BLOCKS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Mold for Plastic Blocks, of which thefol` lowing is a specification.
The present invention relates to a moldl for plastic blocks, such as are employed in constructing silos, bridges, culverts, water tanks and reservoirs and the like.
lt is the primary object of the present in-` vention to provide a mold for such blocks,
which may conveniently form a lock tonguel and groove at the sides of the block in order- 16 being attened so as to be flush with the that adjacent blocks may be interlocked.
This invention also contemplates the provision of a mold of the character indicated which may be utilized for molding various sizes and styles of blocks, the mold being simple and inexpensive in construction, as well as convenient, efficient, and serviceable in its use.
To the above ends, the present invention resides in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed, it being understood that the details are capable of alterations or deviations within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of the benefits derived.
The invention has been illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference characters have been employed to denote corresponding parts, and wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the mold, the several parts being in separated positions. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the mold. Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof. Fig. l is a view similar to Fig. 3, illustrating another use of the mold. Fig. 5 is a sectional detail illustrating a modification. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 5 illustrating another modification. Fig. 7 is a sectional detail illustrating another use of the mold. Fig. 8 is a sectional detail taken on a pla-ne at right angles to the plane of section of Fig. 7. Fig. 9 is a perspective view of a detail.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a suitable bed plate, which is provided at each end with two series of sockets or apertures 11 and which is provided at each side with two series of l sockets or apertures 12, the respective series of sockets 11 and 12 being arranged longitudinally and transversely respectively.
A pair of side pieces are arranged on the bed plate 10, one of the pieces being designated by the numeral 13 and the other piece comprising two complementing parts or sections 14. Each of the parts 14C has a concaved channel 15 along its inner edge, the two channels 15 cooperating so as to provide a groove between the parts 14. The groove provided by the channels 15 is approximately circular, and a pair of short cylindrical blocks 16 are slidable in the ends of the said groove, the outer faces of the blocks inner edges of the parts 14.
The end pieces 17 and 18 are slidable between the side pieces so that the end pieces may be adjusted for forming various lengths of blocks, the rod 21 being adjusted to abut against the end piece 17. The rod 21 co operates with the side piece 13 so as to form a lock groove along one side of the block, whereas the groove in the other side piece forms a lock tongue along the other side of the block, the block 16 being adjustable to correspond with the end pieces.
The end and side pieces are retained in position by means of pins or stops 23 engaged in the corresponding sockets 11 and 12, as will be apparent, the said pins preventing the said pieces from moving outand the side piece 13 are readily removable. The two parts 14 of the other side piece being separable permit the lock tongue along one side of the block to be removed, and the rod 21 may be withdrawn endwise from the lock groove formed along the other side of the block. The block thus formed is provided at its sides with a lock tongue and a lock groove respectively, in order that adjacent blocks may be locked together by an endwise movement, as will be apparent and as is common practice. The block is thus formed in a convenient and simple manner.
It is understood, that the inner edges of the side pieces may be beveled so as to bevel the sides of the block when the block is to be employed for constructing silos and other cylindrical structures, and the end pieces may be of various lengths, in order to give the block the proper width when molded. One end piece may be slightly larger than the other so as to give the block a slight taper, if preferred, when the silo or other structure is to taper, and various other changes may be made in the details within the scope of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of the invention, in order that the blocks molded may suit the circumstances. The tongue and groove at the ends of the block also permit the ends of adjoining blocks to engage each other as is obvious.
As illustrated in Fig. 4, the block or slab is provided with a passage or doorway by means of a frame 24 placed on the center of the bed plate around which the plastic material is molded, the said frame having a flange 25 in order to provide a rabbet around the doorway. This frame or core 24 may be of any suitable pattern, and other cores may be employed for providing bolt holes for securing a door frame in position, as is well understood in molding.
As illustrated in Fig. 5, the end piece 18a is provided with a modified form of groove 20@L for providing a beveled tongue at the end of the block, whereas in Fig. 6, the end piece 18b is provided with a V-shaped groove to which the blocks are to be put, such as for rconstructing silos, bridges, eulverts, water tanks and reservoirs and the likel As shown in Fig. 7, a vertical piece 26 may be set on the side pieces of the mold, said piece having a dropped or depending portion 27 fitting within the side pieces of the mold, so as to provide a groove in the face of the block. One or more of the pieces 26 may be employed for providing groove or grooves in the face of the blockV for any particular purpose. Y
From the foregoing taken in connection with the drawings, the advantages and capabilities of the present device will be apparent, and it will also appear, that the objects aimed at have been carried out in a satisfactory manner.
Having thus described .the invention, what is claimed as new is A mold for plastic blocks Yembodying a bed plate, side pieces thereon, one of the side.v
pieces having an inner lock tongue forming groove of circular' cross section, end pieces slidable between the side pieces, and having an inner tongue and groove, respectively, one end piece having a groove in its end adjacent the other side piece, a lock grooveforming rod of circular crossV sectionslidable through the groove last mentionedin the end piece and having one side flattened and resting against the latter side piece, blocks slidable in the groove of the former side piece to coperate with the respective ends of the end piece, and adjustable means for retaining all of said pieces against separation on the bed plate.
