Description

No. 881,003. PATENTED MAR. s, 1908.
E. F. KBNNELLY. ARTIFICIAL STONE SEWER GAP.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 12, 1907.
EDWARD F. KENNELLY, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
ARTIFICIAL-STONE SEWER-CAP. v
Application filed July 12, 1907.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented March 3, 1908.
Serial No. 383,503.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. KENNELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Artificial-Stone Sewer-Caps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to artificial stone sewer caps and particularly contemplates the provision of a device of this character which shall be as durable as natural stone while cheaper and neater in appearance.
My invention resides specifically in the following features of construction and arrangement as will be hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like numerals are used to designate like parts throughout the several figures, and inwhich Figure 1 is a perspective View of a cap constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, with the cover plate removed, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view therethrough, Fig. 4 is a plan view of the reinforced elements employed therein, Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2 and Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on the line 66 of Fig. 3.
In the practical embodiment of my invention I provide a suitably molded artificial stone sewer cap comprising rectangular body portion 1 having a recess 2 formed on the under face of its forward edge constituting the sewer inlet. The body portion 1 is further formed with a central circular opening 3 therethrough having its wall reinforced by metallic band 4 and having an annular enlargement 5 formed at its upper outer end, extending flush with the surface of the body portion 1 and having its wall reinforced by a metallic band 6. The forward upper edge of the body portion 1 is provided with a reinforced metallic strip 7, rectangular in cross section and arranged extending for a short distance rearwardly on the sides thereof at its ends. The annular enlargement 5 at the upper end of the circular opening 3 is adapted to receive a metallic cover plate 8 adapted when inserted therein to lie flush with the surface of the body portion 1. The body portion 1 of the sewer cap has embedded therein a rectangular separable wooden frame 9 entirely surrounded by the material of said body portion and comprising beams, rectangular in cross section provided with reduced interfitting ends 10 and having openings arranged transverse therethrough adjacent said ends for the reception of metallic supporting rods 11 forming, when assembled, an internal supplemental frame, rigidly supporting the wooden frame 9.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. As a new article of manufacture, an artificial stone sewer cap having a central opening therethrough provided with a metallic reinforcing band and adapted for the reception of a suitable cover plate and reinforcing elements embedded within the material of said cap and encircling said openings, and comprising a rectangular wooden frame, and a supplemental frame located therein and connected thereto for rigidly supporting said wooden frame, substantially as described.
2. As a new article of manufacture an artificial stone sewer cap having central reinforced openings for the reception of a suitable cover plate, having the recess formed upon its under surface constituting the sewer inlet, and having reinforcing elements embeddedin the material thereof about said openings and comprising a rectangular wooden frame, and a supplemental metallic rod frame associated therein and connected thereto, to rigidly support said wooden frame, substantially as described.
3. As a new article of manufacture, an artificial stone sewer cap having a central reinforced opening formed therethrough for the reception of a suitable cover plate, having a recess formed therein constituting a sewer inlet, and for reinforcing elements embedded therein about said opening comprising wooden beams having reduced interfitting ends to form a rectangular frame, and a supplemental metallic rod frame associated within and through said wooden frame to rigidly support the same in position, substantially as described.
4. As a new article of manufacture, an artificial stone sewer cap having a central reinforced opening for the reception of a suitable cover plate, having a recess formed in the under surface thereof constituting a sewer inlet, and having reinforcing elements embedded in the material thereof about said central opening comprising wooden beams having reduced interfitting ends to form a rectangular frame, said beams having transverse openings therethrough adjacent their reduced ends, and a plurality of metallic rods adapted to be associated through said openings to form, within said wooden frame, a supplemental metallic frame for rigidly supporting the same, substantially as described.
5. As a new article of manufacture an artificial stone sewer cap having a central reinforced opening formed therethrough for the reception of a suitable cover plate, having a recess formed in the under surface thereof constituting a sewer inlet, having a metallic strip arranged upon its forward edge above said recess, and extending partially upon the side edges thereof to externally reinforce the same, and reinforcing elements embedded within the material of said cap about the central opening thereof and comprising a rectangularwooden frame having a metallic rod frame associated within and through said wooden frame to rigidly support the same, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD F. KEN NELLY.
