BLOCK MOLD.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, From H. hlonnlsoiv, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Block Molds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a molding ap paratus designed primarily for manufacturing concrete blocks, but it is to be understood that the apparatus can be employed for any purposes wherein it is found applicable, and the invention has for its obj cct to provide an apparatus of such class, in a man ner as hereinafter set forth, with means for simultaneously molding a series of sets of blocks and with each block provided with a concave-convex intermediate portion, and to further provide the apparatus with means whereby the molded blocks can be quickly removed, after the completion thereof from the molds of the apparatus.
Further objects of the invention are to provide a molding apparatus for the purpose set forth and in a manner as hereinafter referred to, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, readily assembled, efficient and con venient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

A molding apparatus in accordance with this invention comprises a series of parallel sets of molds for simultaneously molding a series of sets of blocks, and as each set of molds is alike in construction, but one set will be described, as the description of one set will apply to each of the other sets. Each set of molds as shown consists of four molds, but it is obvious'that this number can be increased or diminished if desired, and each mold of each set of molds includes a pair of oppositely disposed vertically extending front and rear wall members, and the former comprises a convexed intermediate portion 10, terminating in a pair of oppositely disposed and rightangularly extending flat end portions 11, 12. The rear wall forming member is provided with a concave intermediate portion 13, which terminates in a pair of oppositely disposed rightangularly extending flat end portions 14, 15. The end portions 11, 12 of the front wall member oppose the end portions 14, 15 of the rear wall member respectively. The intermediate portion 10, of the front wall member, is provided with a concave seat 16 at its upper end and the intermediate portion 13 of the rear wall member has a concave seat 17, at its upper end. The lower end of the intermediate portion 10, of the front wall member has a convex seat 18, and the lower end of the intermediate portion 13 of the rear wall member has a convex seat 19.
Associated with the front and rear wall members of the molds of the set of molds is a transversely extending concave wall ele ment 20, which is mounted in the seats 16, 17, of the front and rear wall members of the molds of the set and common to the front and rear wall members of the molds of a set is a transversely extending bottom wall element 21. which is convexed in contour and is mounted against the seats 18, 19 of the front and rear wall members of the molds of the set.
The side walls of the molds of each set are formed by transversely extending partitions 22, 23 and 24, each of which is common to the front and rear wall members of the molds of the-set and against the partitions 2-3, abut the outer end portions of the front and rear wall members of the outer sets of molds, that is to say the set of molds arranged at'each end of the apparatus. Against Ill one face of the partitions 24, abut the end portions of the front and rear wall members of molds of adjacent sets of molds, that is to say, with respect to the molds of the sets with the exception of the sets of molds at the ends of the apparatus, one face of the partitions 24, is abutted by the end portions 12 and 13 of one set of molds and the other face of the partitions 2st, is abutted by the end portions 11, 14:, of the front and rear wall members of the molds of an adjacent set.
The apparatus includes a body portion which consists of a rectangular base 25, which associates with the conveXed bottom elements 21 to form the lower end of the block. Mounted on the base 25, is a rectangular frame formed of upper and lower side members 26, 27 and end members 28, 29. Only one of the lower side members 26 is illustrated and the said side members 26, 27, at each side of the frame, are connected together by inclined braces 30. The frame is so set up that one side, and one end, is detachable so that the said side and end can be disconnected from the other side and end and access be had to the interior of the apparatus for the purpose of arranging the molds or for removing the completed blocks.
lVhen the body portion of the apparatus is closed, the top of the frame, is connected wit-h the base, by a plurality of detachable tiemembers 31, 32. The base 25 is ofv greater length and of greater width than the frame and the latter has its top provided with a flange 33, to make provision for the mounting in position, of the tie- members 31, 32.
The lower side members 26 are constructed of angle irons, so as to provide seats for the bottom elements 21. The top elements 20, when mounted in position on the front and rear wall members of the molds of the set are clamped in position,or they may be permanently connected to that side of the frame which is secured to the base and other than that. side which is detachably connected.
The braces 30 have lateral keepers 34 for the passage of the tie members 81, 32.
The intermediate portion of each of the front wall members is formed with a plurality of hollow cylindrical extensions 35, and the intermediate portion 13 of each of the inner wall members is also formed with a plurality of hollow cylindrical extensions 36. The extensions 35 project toward and abut against the extensions 36, when the wall members are set up, andby such provision the wallmembers can be arranged and maintained in spaced relation inv battery-like formation, without the necessity of separate fastenings, with respectto the stationary end andone side of the frame. The other side and other endoffthe frame, after the members havebeen arranged in position, are then clamped to thestationary side and end of the frame, under such conditions the molds are fixedly maintained in position, in a manner as illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawings.
The top elements 20, as well as the front and rear wall members of the molds extend flush with the top of the frame.
The top elements 20 may be termed upper cores, the bottom elements 21 lower cores, the front wall forming members front cores, and the rear wall forming members rear cores.
The top of the apparatus is open so that the material can be readily poured into each set or battery and the material tampered after it has been supplied to the molds.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accon'ipanying drawings, a block molding apparatus is set up whereby a series of sets of blocks are molded simultaneously with the intermediate portion thereof concavo-conveX and with the outer portions rectangular in contour, and further an apparatus is set up which not only provides a means for efficiently molding a series of sets of blocks, but further provides an apparatus which is conveniently operated, and it is furthermore to be understood that changes or modifications in the detail of construction falling within the scope of the invention can be made as is obvious.
What I claim is 1. A molding apparatus comprising a plurality of parallel sets of molds, and each of the molds of each set consisting of a pair of vertically extending'and oppositely disposed concave-convex front and rear cores, each provided with a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions, an upper core common to the molds of andmounted on the vertical cores of the molds of each set, a bottom core common to and having the vertical cores of each set mounted thereon, and partitions each com mon to the molds of the set and having the end portions at one side of the vertical cores of the molds of the set abutting there against.
2. A molding ap iaratus comprising a plurality of parallel sets of molds, and each of the molds of each set consisting of a pair of vertically extending and oppositely disposed concaveconvex front and rear cores, each provided with a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions, an upper core common to the molds of and mounted on the vertical cores of the molds of each set, a bottom core common to and having the vertical cores of each set mounted thereon, and partitions each common to the molds of theset and having the end portions at one side of the vertical coresof the molds of the set abutting there against, said vertical cores having the coiicaveconvex portions thereof cut away at each end to provide seats for said upper and lower cores.

A molding apparatus comprising a plurality of parallel sets of molds, and each of the molds of each set consisting of a pair of vertically extending and oppositely disposed concave-convex front and rear cores each provided with a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions, an upper core common to the molds of and mounted on the vertical cores of the molds of each set, a bottom core common to and having the vertical cores of each set mounted thereon, partitions each common to the molds of the set and having the end portions at one side of the vertical cores of the molds of the set abutting there against, said vertical cores having the concave-convex portions thereof cut away at each end to provide seats for said upper and lower cores, and a body poriton receiving said cores and partitions and provided with a detachable side and end.

A molding apparatus comprising a plurality of parallel sets of molds, and each of the molds of each set consisting of a pair of vertically extending and oppositely disposed concave-convex front and rear cores, each provided with a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions, an upper core common to the molds of and mounted on the vertical cores of the molds of each set, a bottom core common to and having the vertical cores of each set mounted thereon, and partitions each common to the molds of the set and having the end portions at one side of the vertical cores of the molds of the set abutting there against, said vertical cores having the concave convex portions thereof cut away at each end to provide seats for said upper and lower cores.

A molding apparatus comprising a plurality of parallel sets of molds, and each of the molds of each set consisting of a pair of vertically extending and oppositely disposed concave-convex front and rear cores, each provided with a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions, an upper core common to the molds of and mounted on the vertical cores of the molds of each set, a bottom corecommon to and having the vertical cores of each set mounted thereon, partitions each common to the molds of the set and having the end portions at oneside of the vertical cores of the molds of the set abutting there against, said vertical cores having the concave-convex portions thereof cut away at each end to provide seats for said upper and lower cores, and a body portion receiving said cores and partitions and provided with a detachable side and end, the end portions of the cores of the molds of each'set abutting each other and against said body portion.

In a molding apparatus front and rear oppositely disposed core members, each provided with a concave-convex intermediate portion and a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions projecting from said intermediate portion, each of said intermediate portions having its top formed with a concave seat and its bottom with a convex seat, a concave upper core mounted in said concave seats and a convexed lower core mounted against said convexed seat, said front and rear oppositely disposed core members having the intermediate portion thereof provided with hollow cylindrical extensions, the extensions of the front core members abutting against the extensions of the rear core members.

In a molding apparatus, front and rear oppositely disposed core members each provided with a concavo-convex intermediate portion and a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions projecting from said intermediate portion, each of said intermediate portions having its top formed with a concave seat and its bottom with a convex seat, a concave upper core mounted in said concave seats and a convexed lower core mounted against said convexed seat, and said elements having said end portions abutting thereagainst, said front and rear oppositely disposed core members having the intermediate portion thereof provided with hollow cylindrical extensions, the extensions of the front core members abutting against the extensions of the rear core members.

In a molding apparatus, front and rear oppositely disposed core members, each provided with a oonoav0-oonyex intermediate portion and a pair of oppositely extending rightangularly disposed end portions projecting from said, intermediate portion, each of said intermediate portions having its top formed With a concave seat and its bottom With'a convex seat, a concaveupper core mounted in said concave seats and a oonvexed lower ooretmounted against said eonvexedseat, saidelements having said end portions, abutting thereagainst, said front andQ-rear oppositely-disposed, core members having the intermediate portion thereof provided with hollow'eylzindrioal extensions, the extensions of the front core members abutting against theextensions of the rear core members, aframe inolosing said'cores, said framehaving;astationary side and end and a removable side and end, and means for clamping theremovable side and end to the stationary side and end.
