To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J LU'rrRnLL,
a citizen of the United-States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plastic- Block Molds, of which the following is a specification. This invention has relation to plastic block molds of the type having hingedly connected sides and has for an object to provide cores and means for supporting the same in the mold whereby openings may be formed in the block.
With the above and other objects in view, as will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of cooperating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, pointed out in the appended claims and shown in the accompanying drawing.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,

that the body of the Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates the table, which is of a length and width greater than the length and width of the mold and has an end strip or abutment 6 mounted upon its upper face and extending across one end, which will be hereinafter termed the rear end. The table 1 is also provided with longitudinal strips or abutments T on its upper face to cooperate with the strip or abutment 6 in holding the body of the mold in proper position upon the table 1 when olosec.
The body of the mold consists of an end member 8 which will be termed the rear end, longitudinal or side members 9 hinged to the rear end member 8, and a front end member 10 which is hinged toone of the side members 9. The front end member 10 carries a pivot latch member 11 which is adapted for interlocking engagement with the stationary latch member 12 projecting from the remaining side member 9 of the body. A stationary handle 13 is mounted upon the latch member 11 for the purpose of moving the same into and out of engagement with the stationary latch member 12. The latch member 12 is preferably provided with a transverse slot 1 1 in one edge to receive the pivoted latch member 11, as will be readily understood by referring to the drawings.
The hinges employed for connecting the side members 9 with the rear end member 8, are designated on the drawings by the numeral 15 while the hinges employed for connecting the front end 10 with one of the side members 9, are designated by the numeral 16. Handles 17 are also mounted upon the outer faces of the side members 9, in order mold may be readily placed upon or removed from the table 1.
While the body of the mold may be of any suitable size, I prefer to construct the same in such manner as to provide a chamber or compartment which will be approximately 4 ft. 1 in. in length, 16 in. in width and 16 in. in depth, in order that the blocks of the proper sizes may be produced by this mold, the dividers and reducing members serving to divide the compartment or chamber into a number of compartments or chambers of equal size when the dividing and reducing members are properly arranged within the mold body.
\Vhen it is desired to produce three foundation tier blocks of 122112316 in. the main compartment of the mold must be divided into three compartments byinserting the two transverse dividing plates 18, the vertical edges of which engage in the vertical grooves 19 provided for the same in the inner faces of the sides 9 of the mold body, as clearly shown in Fig.5 of the drawings. The transverse dividing plates 18 should be approximately one-half an inch in thickness, thereby separating the main compartment into three compartments of 16 in. in length. After the plates 18 have been placed in position, the longitudinal filling blocks 22 are'placed in one side of the compartments and the transverse filling blocks 23 are placed in the ends of the com partments. The depth of the compartments, however, will remain at about 16 in. The reducing members 22 and 23 have knobs 24 and 25 respectively, by means of which they may be readily placed in position or re moved. Transverse arms 26 are also pivoted to the reducing members 22 to extend transversely across the three compartments, the transverse arms 26' being held in position by removable pins 27 or the like, which extend through the free ends of the arms 26 and into one of the side members 9. The arms 26 are provided with openings 28 above openings 29 in the table 1 to receive removable vertical core opening forming rods 30 for forming core holes in the corners of the closure foundation pier blocks during formation of the latter within the three compartments. After the blocks have been formed, the core forming rods may be withdrawn, the arms 26 released and the mold latch 11 released, after which the mold body may be readily raised from upon the table 1. The reducing members 22 and 23 will then fall away from the blocks. The dividing plates 18 may be withdrawn before opening of the mold body or after removal of the same from the table 1, as desired.
When it is desired to employ this device for forming three pier foundation blocks, the mold body is placed upon the'table 1 in the same manner as previously described and the dividing plates 18 are positioned in the mold body in the same manner. The
longitudinal reducing members 22 are also placed in the same position as previously described, but the transverse reducing members 23 are omitted. This arrangement of the removable parts results in the provision of three compartments or chambers for the formation of the pier'foundation blocks. In this form of block, however, the vertical core hole forming rods 30 are omitted and in place of these rods, I employ the long or longitudinally extending core hole forming rods 33 which are extended through the openings 34: in the opposite end members 8 and 10 of the mold body. The arms 26 are employed in the same manner as described in the foregoing paragraph, to support the longitudinal reducing members 22 in pcsition during the operation of molding the blocks. This operation may be readily 'understood by referring to Fig. ings.
When it is desired to produce three pier foundation blocks, it is only necessary to employ the two dividing plates 18 and short transverse core hole forming rods 30, previously mentioned, which latter should be positioned in the transverse openings 35 in the sides 9 of the mold body. The dividing plates 18 are positioned the same as in the two previously described operations. I r
In order to produce with one operation, six lot markers, the dividing plates 18 are positioned as previously described and longitudinal vertical dividing plates 36 are employed to divide the mold longitudinally, the opposite ends of the dividing plates 36 being engaged in the grooves 18 in the sides of the dividing plates 18 and the grooves 8 and 10 in the end body members 8 and 10 respectively. The arrangement of the parts of the devicefor the production of the lot markers is illustrated in Fi 8 of the drawings.
11 order to produce two headstone foundation blocks, the two transverse dividing plates 18 are placed in the center of the body with their vertical edges'engaged in the wide vertical slots 40 in the inner faces of the sides 9 of the body. This will result in the production of two headstone fonndation blocks of practically two feet in length and sixteen inches by sixteen inches in width. The short transverse coreopening forming rods this operation, as clearly shown in Fig. 9 of the drawings.
WVhen it is desired to produce two curbstone blocks, the long longitudinal vertical dividing plate 41 is employed to divide'the body into two compartments of equal size. The longitudinal core hole forming rods 33 may also be employed in thi operation, as
shown in Fig. 10 if desired.
I claim:
1. A plastic block mold including a table provided with perforations arranged in series, a mold removably mounted upon said table, dividing means for said mold, compartment reducing members for said mold, supporting means for said reducing members, said supporting means being provided with perforations adapted to register with said first mentioned perforations, core hole forming rods adapted to be engaged through 7 the registering perforations, and finishing members adapted to be removably positioned in the compartments of said mold to shape andfinish the ends of the blocks formed in said compartments. g, r V 2.
