UNITED STATES 1 AUL MAGHOWICZ, or BROOKLYN, NEWYORK.
BRACKET ATTACHMENT FOR WINDOW CASINGS.
Application 1ed,February 15,` 1924. Serial No. 693,069."
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL MAcI-iowrcz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bracket Attachments for lVindowCasings, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to bracketattachments for window casings and has for its principal object the provision of a means for conveniently supporting a shade roller, a curtain and draperies usually employed for lending attractiveness to the inner furnishings of a room.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide an attachment to a window casing for supporting a curtain and its draperies, so that either the draperies or the curtain may be moved to one side of the window to permit an uninterrupted View through the window when desired to look out.
A further object of the invention is to provide a plurality of clamps for supporting the hangings of a window and Which will permit the usual removal of the same should it be desired to replace or remove them for cleaning purposes.
lith these and other objects in view the invention resides in certain novel construction and combination and arrangement of parts, the essential features of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the app-ended claim, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which z- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention shown applied to a window casing and showing' the draperies and curtains supported therefrom.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the curtain and draperies removed.
Figure 4 is a transverse sectional view on the line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a vertical transverse section on the line 5 5 of Figure 1.
Figure Gis a detail side elevation of one of the clamps showing the jaws in open position.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference numeral 10 designates a window casing to which my invention is shown applied. The invention includes a pair of brackets 11 and 12 adapted to be attached at opposite sides of the window casing 10 by any suitable means such as screws or the like 13 and which brackets are adapted to indirect-ly support a curtain 14 `and Vits draperies 15. The bracket 12 is formed of a pair of horizontally disposed arms 16 to one of whichone end of a cable 17 is adapted to be secured yas `at18. The cable 17v passes around a pulley 19 rotatably mounted to the other bracket 11 and has its free end wound about a drum or spool 20 mounted for turning movement between the arms 16 of the bracket 12. The drum 20` is keyed topa shaft 21 which is mounted in the arms 16 and the lower end of the shaft is provided with a manipulating portion 22 for rotating the drum in order to take-up any slack in the cable 17. The upper end of the shaft has keyed thereon a ratchet wheel 23 for coaction with a spring pressed do-g 24 whereby the drum is held in adjusted postion against retrograde movement. It will be seen that any amount of cable'may be paid out according to the width of the win dow casing so that the device is applicable to any size window.
It will be seen that by anchoring one end of the cable to the bracket 12 and passing same about the pulley 19 and thence attaching it to the drum 20 there is provided a pair of leads 24 and 25, which leads are adapted to support slidable clips 26. There may be any number of these clips arranged in spaced relation along the leads depending upon the width oft-he window casing. Clips 26 arranged on the lead 24 are adapted to support the curtain 14 while the clips 26 on the lead 25 sup-port the draperies 15 as clearly shown in Figures 1, 2 and 4 of the drawing. The clips 26 are identical in construction and a description of one will suffice. Each clip, comprises a pair of eXpa-nsible legs 27 which are connected by means of looping the wire from which the legs are formed to provide an eye 28, which eye is passed over leads of the cable. Each leg has its free end provided with a block 28 having formed there in a gro-ove 29 and a rib 30 for co-action with the rib and the groove respectively of the adjacent block as clearly disclosed in Figure 6 of the drawing. A member 31 is slidable over the legs and is adapted to be moved adjacent the blocks for holding the blocks in clamping engagement with the curtain or draperies.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that when desired the draperies and Curtain, may be meved t@ one side 0f the window casing soy as to permit av clear View through the window when desired. to look out. Furthermore it will be seen that curtain and draperies may be removed from the clips by releasing the clannrgilgig action set up by the member 31 when it is desired to replace the hangings for ,cleaning pur.-` poses.
InA order to support a shade roller 32, I plfevide a pair 0f hangers 3.3 which are identical in construction.A r-lhe hangers 33 are provided with slots 3ft for cofaction with a clamping nut .85 carried -by each of the brackets 1l and 12. From this construction it will .be manifest that the brackets are adjustable toward or away from each other to accurately receive shade rollers of diierent sizes.
V-hile I .haverdescribed `what I deem .to be .the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is Aobvious Vthat many of the detail-S may be varied without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not limit lnyselfvto the eXact details of'construction herein set -forth nor to anything less then the whole of my invention limited only by the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is:-
An attachment vfor window casings comprising a pair of spaced brackets, spaced horizontally Adisposed arms included in one of said brackets a pulley supported by .the
other of said brackets, a cable secured to one of said arms, a drum rotatably mounted between the arms, the said cable passi-ng over vsaid pulley to form a pair of leads and havsignature.
' PAUL MACI-IOVICZ.
