Be it known that I, JOSEPH CARROLL SPARKS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Modesto, in the county of Stanislaus and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razor-Blade Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in razor blade holders, the princlpal object of which is to provide a simple and eicient holder for a razor blade so that the same may be honed or strapped in an etlicient manner.

Another object is to produce a device of this character which is cheap to manufacture and one well within the purchase price of the average user. y

Figure 4 is a cross section of my device showing'the manner of retaining a Gillette type of blade, and Figure 5 is a cross section 'similar to Figure 4 showing the manner of retaining an Eveready type blade.

Applicant is aware ofthe fact that various means have been employed for holding razor blades during the sharpening operation.

These holders however, have been complicated, unwieldy and hard to adjust so that the blade could not be properly held.

` Lugs 11 are formed upon the lower edge of the flat portion 6 and are ada ted to pass through the usual openings oi) the razor blade as best shown in Figure 1. In order to maintain the blade in its proper position in the holder I provide a slide 12 having a recessed nose 13 which is adapted to contact the blade. This slide has a finger-piece 14 movable in a groove 16 formed in a substantially U-shaped filler 17. This filler 17 fits 55 within the U-shaped handle 5 and serves to retain a spring 18. This spring lcontacts the end of the slide 12 and is confined by a lug 19.

A band. 21 is secured about the handle 5 and U-shaped portion 17 for the purpose of retaining the same in propeil workin relation. The modified form shown in Figure 2 is identical with that of Figure 1, with the exception, that the lu This elimination provides for the accommodation of a razor blade having the thick re-enforcing metal at one edge thereof.

It will thus be seen that blades of various makes can be quickly placed within the holder-'by manipulating the nger-piecel/i which withdraws the slide 12 and that immediately upon release of the finger piece, the spring 18 will function to cause the slide 12 to engage the end of the blade forcing the opposite end ofthe blade into contact with the recess formed in the rim -8. v

`It is to be understood that the forms of my inventionherewith shown and described are to be taken as preferred examples of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of 'parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub joined claim.
