LINDA H. MONAIR, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOUND IMPLEMENTS Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 155,196, dated September 22, 1874; application filed March 11, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Miss LINDA H. MON AIR, of Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented a Compound Implement, of which the following is a specification r The nature of my invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, and the letters marked thereon.
B is a paper-cutter or blade. A is a clamp or spring; (J, a pencil; and D, a booksho\ving the manner of attaching and using the book-marker and pencil-holder.
The following is the construction of the same: The pencil-holder E, the blade B, and clamp A maybe constructed of a single piece, by bending it to form the pencil-holder E; a tube or cylinder to hold the pencil (l, and leaving the blade B and the clamp A straight and sprung together, so as to touch each other at the end of the spring A.
The pencil-holder E may be formed separately, of silver or other metal, with sufficient spring to hold the blade B and clamp A together, or upon the leaves of a book.
The blade and clamp may be constructed of ivory, box-Wood, or other suitable material.
In the drawing, the book-marker is in the position of being placed in the book, the blade B and clamp A clamping a portion of the leaves. It may be slid upon the leaves and the pencil brought down close to the book.
When used as a paper-cutter, the blade B is used as the ordinary ivory paper-cutter when opening pamphlets Whose leaves have not been out.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an article of manufacture, the withindescribed compound implement, consisting of the book-marker A, paper-cutter B, and penoil-holder E, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
